ParticipantHello everyone. My oven thermostat seems to be faulty as the oven now just goes to maximum temperature every time and then turns off automatically after about 20 minutees, I think due to overheating. It then turns back on automatically after a few minutes of cooling down. I believe there is a separate overheat sensor which seems to be working ok but the actual dial control thermostat isn’t working at all.
I’ve seen a few videos about how to replace the thermostat and I’m confident I can handle the repair job but I was wondering if I could use any “Universal Oven Thermostat” to replace it or would I have to have a specific part? It seems the Universal ones are a lot cheaper than the genuine part. The universal costs about £15 while the genuine one seems to be around £55.
My oven is a Belling BEL BI60F / model : 444449578
So to sum up, can I get any Universal Oven Thermostat and will it work fine, or must I have the genuine original part?

That one, if it’s the main oven should be this one:

It’s got a 320?C max setting which is high and a bit unusual. You could, in theory use a universal one but, the temperature would be out a bit on the control knob.
The universal ones are better suited to “continental” style ovens.

Thanks for the reply K and the link. Yes, it’s the main oven which is faulty.
The max temp on the oven is 240 degrees. I wouldn’t mind if the temperature is slightly out, as long as the temp was adjustable because right now it just heats to full temp every time so there’s zero control.
I’m hoping to find the most economical option, something around the £20 mark. Is there by chance any Universal type you know which might work straight out of the box, in that oven, for around that price?

Theoretically, this one should be the best “fit” given the range on the old one but, as with a lot of such things it may not be exactly the same. As in, you may need to adjust slightly how it’s used as well in terms of the temperature.

To be honest though, it’s probably going to be fine in it, I just can’t tell you that 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} for sure.
