    hi,
customer(elderly and nearly deaf), said her hotpoint went bang(didn’t know if it was mechanical or electrical bang), then it finished the program but the door wont open.
went out to it and opened the door from inside the machine. The machine was dead and the tracks on the side of the timer are burned out(under the first black rast connector).motor tests ok, little bit worried about fitting a new timer to find it blows that as well.
any common faults to look for?
is the interlock a prime suspect?
    thanks.

New lock, John – that one’s a classic. Timer may repair with soldering iron.

Interlock can definately take out the timer tracks on these, had that a few times. Have you traced the wires back to the component from the damaged track ends? That is usually a good indication of where ythe fault is 😉

Replace the interlock, and repair the blown track(s)
or remove the wire fom the connector block
and solder it onto the next junction on the
    control unit.
