WMA61P keeps shedding the belt so I tried fitting a genuine Hotpoint replacement (1603287 – 1158J5) but try as I might cannot get the b***** on! 😕
I’ve poured boiling water on the belt to try to stretch it. I’ve used countless cable ties on the drive pulley to hold the belt but it either slips by the cable tie or derails off the motor pulley. I’ve got the customer to try stopping the belt derailing the motor pulley as I turn the drum, still it comes off. I’ve used iron bars to almost get the belt near to the pulley but can’t shift it beyond that. I have a genuine Hotpoint special belt tool for a WMA but the motor pulley is too big to slip over it, so I guess there must be 2 versions of special tool….dunno? 👿
After 2 hours of bending, twisting, cussing and swearing….I gave up and walked away… :rolls:
Is it me??????????? What am I doing wrong????????

Cable tie method usually works everytime for me Martin. take the top weight off for better, less scratchy access. Could aways take the tub out i suppose, its easy to slip them on then!

I’ve managed it in the past by leaning the machine forward, put belt round motor pulley and oneside of belt on right hand side of drive pulley then slowly and carefully (if you value the skin on your arms!) turning the pulley in clockwise direction – just enough room if you lean it forward!

I always put the belt on , when facing the back of the machine, by putting it over the motor pulley & then ease over the rh side of the drum pulley…..However I found the other day it is much easier if you start it on the left of the drum pulley and ease the pulley clockwise looking from the back of machine.
hat all sounds complete rubbish the way I have written it, but I promise it works and i am com pletely ‘armless 😆

Cable tie is the only way, 😉
Have you checked the motor mounting brackets Martin, on very rare occasions these can crack and will keep throwing the belt off.

I’ve never had a problem fitting these.
I do it by fitting over motor pulley and then wind it on the drum pulley, I don’t use cable ties or nothing else, but I do use leather gardening gloves to protect me little pinkies lol

I asked my customer to try ensure the belt doesn’t come off the pulley but it is an impossibility and just flips off every time! I have tried 2 genuine Hotpoint (elasticated) belts and same result each time. Boiling water to soften them up has little (if any) effect either, it’s beaten me, sodding Hotpoints……. 👿

I put the belt around the motor pulley then start it on the left side of the drum pulley. then using my right hand to hold the belt in place i open machine door and turn drum from inside with left hand. i find all i have to do then is hold belt on pulley whilst turning, with a bit of practice its really easy.

can I suggest you take the motor off & refit having checked the brackets & forget the hot water & trying to pre-stretch the belt, you don’t need to!There must be a reason for you struggling and, it has I am sure, nothing to do with the belt. They are a bugger to get on …..but not that bad. You know what it is like…….you get a pig of a problem and your focus is taken away from logical answers.
You will kick yourself when you find the simple cause! We always do!!

A bugger indeed, in fact in this instance it was impossible even for the two of us to fit it. Almost as if the belt was more than 2 inches or more too short? Specifically with the belt around the motor pulley and then cable tied onto the drum pulley it was already hanging vertical before the 12 o’clock position on the drum pulley. A bloody good twist of the drum to get it past the drum pulley nut and off it came time and time again…..imbloodypossiblemate….
To make matters worse, the blokes gone out and bought an LG….. :rolls:

Still reckon it was a broken motor mounting, just had one this afternoon, at first i thought I have got one of Martin’s belts but a quick check of the motor mounting bracket at the tacho end of the motor revealed a broken mounting on the plastic drum, to make matters worse this was a new drum I fitted 10 months ago so FOC repair. 😥

Went to fit a belt on one of these today and – Horrors! – no cable ties…
Solution – an old 95 series tub front clip. Belt on pulley, snap clip (claw end to the drum-side) over pulley and belt and it wound straight on.
No fumbling about blind down the back of the drum trying to thread a ty-rap and 10p saved (Important when you live in Yorkshire..).
