I fitted a new pump, replacement genuine spare and tested on 1st rinse ,the machine emptied to sink waste ok.Collected cash and left happy customer.

Recalled today -not emptying. Can hear pump running-suspect blockage-removed outlet pipe and poked it through with a garden cane(a useful tool!),removed all the sump and checked the ball, removed pump cover-everything ok.Reassembled and tested on rinse ,emptied first rinse, second rinse just a faint trickle.Repeated all above-nothing.Elimination time-removed non-return flap and bingo it empties all through the rinses. Seems the pump didnt have the oomph to open the flap when there is any water in the outlet pipe. Usually I use a universal pattern pump and just reverse the coil and replace the plug with spade connectors are these Hotpoint pumps underpowered?

If you ‘pinch’ the flap valve by badly positioning the corbin clip (or jubilee clip) that will tend to hold the valve tight against the pump body and cause the fault 😉

Ensure the drain hose is well pushed on and the clamp clear of the area adjacent the flap mounting.

There was a problem with this pumps flap valve, a while back, caused problems on newish machines at the time, in fact if you ordered a new sump hose assy, you got a new, slightly reduced size flap valve for the pump included. I would have thought that all the stock of faulty ones had long since gone.
