This machine is freestanding but well tucked in.
    Reported fault: not draining.
Pulled out, disconnected hoses, pulled half a tee shirt? (smelly and unrecognisable) out from sump hose hole, all tangled round heater.
Put machine back. Selected spin. Draining fine, but no sign of drum movement.
Dragged it out again. Put on test, drum starts moving. Ok, maybe I was just too impatient.
Push it back. Set to spin. Spin starts but water valve keeps kicking in every couple of seconds as though there was some sort of issue with the pressure switch. (Customer then announces that pipes upstairs rattle when machine is spinning :rolls: )
No time left, already running late for next job, customer has another machine in adjoining holiday let, so I’m going back next week.
    Your thoughts please.
    Mike.

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago on a hotpoint. It would take water in sharp bursts on spin and after the spin.Turned out to be the board. P45 would a dicky motor cause the valve to energise.Ive not come across that before.

i would double check the sump, i had 1 a week or so a go doing the same thing, it was as tho when the drum moved the pressure switch thought it was empty so asked for more water…

turned out to be a small sock in the sump just were the pressure swich plastic pipe connects.

I agree with A1 had the fault before and was blocked, item would move and cause machine to ask for water.

I might be missing something but why would it ask for more water on spin.Blocked or not. 😕

Think penguin is right but just out of curiosity is the drain pump and the valve wired in series on these???? thats the only possible connection i could see apart from motor that the valve would energise on spin

    just a thought phil :rolls:

Phil thats the first point I was trying to get at why would the motor cause the machine to fill. But hay its a hotpoint anything could happen. 😯

Exactly what i had a couple of weeks ago.Customer had plumber out first
because of pipes banging around the house.I changed the board and it did the trick

Re: WMA36 valve kicking during spin, after major sump blocka

Hmm. Don’t fancy going straight in with a board till I’ve checked the cheaper options. (Got a good s/h FHP motor, is it interchangeable with the Bosch?) Anyway, from what I gather he’s had the banging pipes for ages but had just turned the radio up. I like these customers who just put up with things, rather than worry about every little noise.

Re: WMA36 valve kicking during spin, after major sump blocka

Went back to this today. Put it on again for quick check before dragging out….. drum not moving again.
So straight for the brushes which were dual tag type, and that was it! I would not have believed it. I had remembered doing them before and didn’t realise that was four years ago. Turns out they use the machine “about three times a day” (washing for the family plus a holiday cottage). No wonder I’ve had such a lot of work out of that machine over the years!
So The Antarctic Bird gets two points for getting in first with the right answer and saving me some time again.
Philfish gets one point for backing Chris up on this; and rolf, A1, lerch and waters half a point each for your helpful contributions. Many thanks,
    Mike.

I must try harder ………Funny that my school report always said the same thing. But getting back to it I have never known of low carbs turning a water valve on.We live and learn in fact thats why I love this job cos im always learning.

Re: WMA36 valve kicking during spin, after major sump blocka

I think it must be the electromagnetic field caused by the arcing from the worn brushes inducing currents in one of the components on the board that then switches the valve on. Those boards can do peculiar things when they go wrong. I’ve got one at the moment that won’t switch the machine off in the ‘off’ position and does whatever it feels like in the other positions.

If you suspect the board but aren’t sure you can always get one from EMW and send it back for a fiver if it isn’t that.
