ParticipantEvening, came in this afternoon to find the Hotpoint WMD960 flashing up an F01 error. Seems the wife had set the machine to wash and went straight out the door shopping, so no idea if it came up straight away etc. The washing was though wet when I took it out after finding the fault. I’ve searched elsewhere on here and found this:
“Sadly it is…F01 is supposed to signify a motor triac fault. If you are really lucky it may just be poor wiring connections between the motor and the PCB in the base, if not it is likely to be the PCB that has failed, Indesit boards are very prone to failure.
Be very careful if you intend to have a look inside, leave it unplugged for at least 10 minutes before putting your hands in there, this machine has a 3 phase motor and the PCB holds a considerable charge.“
I have lately been dragging the machine in/out from under the unit whilst fitting new base units and cupboards around it (loose connection?). Anyway, I switched it off and hauled it out. Turned it back on and no more F01 fault. Set it to run the same coloured cycle as before, it washed the tablets through but nothing seeming to happen thereafter – display looks normal and timer is counting down as usual but no drum movement. Half thinking brushes? Are they replaceable on this one, pretty sure it’s pre the “nasty” Indesit innards as it has the accessible pump from where I recently removed part of a bra wire……saying that we never did find the rest of the wire! Is it worth checking the impeller again? Last time it was an F05 fault NOT F01. Many thanks.

no brushes im afraid, its a 3 phase motor
i found many of those to have a loose/broken wire in the motor plug, however i found many more with pcb failure
check the motor connections, if theyre not broken, it will need a pcb, theres no inbetween im sorry

Cheers for that. Assume by motor connections you mean at the pcb, at the motor and on that white connector to the bottom left of the motor.
The pcb, easily accessible? Could I be looking at an obvious blown capacitor maybe? Even a dud triac that I could swap out. Is is surface mount stuff on the board or can you “see it”?
Thanks

Boards tend to fails on these due to overloading or the dampener going soft, the motor swings over to far and catches the heat sink on the board and shorts it out.
sometimes you can see the marks on the heat sink or the module is cracked.
New board needed..

Very useful reply; my washing machine has a similar (f01) fault.
No obvious marks inside the machine and wiring all seems OK. Not knowing the motor is brushless (should have checked here!) I took the motor off, but now I put all back.
Can you please provide any advise on (i) how to take out the PCB out, and (ii) where best to purchase a replacement. Any concerns in using a refurbished PCB?
(finally! if I have to remove the motor again to get to the PCB do you have a trick for putting the belt back on again! I struggled doing this last night).
THANK YOU!!!

Hi
New PCB is not programed, so a card reader and smart card required.
PCB About £115.00
Smart card About £20.00 (use once only)
Card reader About £116.00Washman

Hi Washman
Thank you for a very prompt response; however I am not sure it answers all my questions:

Thanks again – I am not very experienced in using these forums, but I greatly appreciate your support.

As already mentioned a new PCB together with the smart card and reader will cost serious money.
As for refurbished, as long as you are getting it from EMW then it should be OK, I would avoid eBay etc.
Refitting the belt is a doddle, arm yourself with a large, plastic bag tie (tywrap). Place the belt on the drum pulley and lash it tightly to the pulley with the bag tie. Allow the belt to hang down enough to slip it over the motor pulley and then open the door, reach inside and turn the drum to wind the belt over the drum pulley. You can then cut off the bag tie or just spin the drum rapidly which will snap the bag tie off.

THANKS iadom – all makes sense and will follow your recommend.
I assume EMW means http://www.emwelec.co.uk ?
One final query if I may: any special advice in removing the PCB? Is it straight forward – just unplug cables and remove screws? Any particular tip?
Thank you again!

As this is a 3 phase motor the most important thing to do is to leave the machine unplugged for at least 15 minutes before you touch the pcb, it packs a hefty charge.
Just make a very careful note of connector positions, if you get them wrong we will be unable to help you due to our forum rules. 😉
Yes that is the EMW I was referring to, they will also test any pcb for a small fee.

Not possible to do that as it is a welded shell cabinet.
Unplug machine first and allow at least 5 minutes for the electrical charge to dissipate before touching the board. The board releases through the back though if you lay the machine at an angle of around 45 degrees on its front (supported and protected) then access and releasing the wiring ties is a tad easier.
