Hi Patrick,
A few people have asked the same thing so, for the benefit of all that have asked, I will explain.
That post is in the Whitegoods Trade Association forum which is a paid for service, i.e. it isn’t free and you need to be a member of that association to gain entry to that forum. It is NOT owned by UK Whitegoods although we do administrate it for the TA.
It is not free.
It is not automatic.
It is not a right that anyone who is not a member should have access or be able to get the details.
The newsletter which often carries these stories goes to ALL members subscribed to the newsletter (you can choose to get it or not in your account preferences) whether they have access to that specific forum or not.
Many moons ago we formed the Subscribers Forum which eventually evolved into the WTA and it was always said that any special offers or work offers would be posted there first, which has been the case as it is with this one.
So things like this current offer of work and the likes of the discounted fuel offer are only available to WTA members at present.
But then, for the sake of agreeing to the Code Of Practice, filling out a form and handing over, I think, £70 a year it’s hardly dramatic to sign up or expensive.
However what happens every time that one of these offers is made and it goes out on a newsletter I get a slew of emails all complaining that the person can’t access the link and doesn’t understand why that is. Quite often it’s from people that only ever look at UKW once in a blue moon and many times I find myself explaining this over and over again, often to people that have had access to the site for years.
There are areas of UKW that have restricted access, there’s no great secret in it. The people that have access are the ones that the forum relates to and there’s free areas like that and one that’s paid for, the WTA forums is the one that’s paid for.
There are other forums, such as the ISE one, that only ISE dealers are allowed access to freely. There’s ones that you don’t even see that are there that, unless you happen to be an agent or whatever the criteria may be, you won’t see let alone be able to access.
We provide support forums for people in the industry on this basis at a cost and they choose who has or has not got access, not us. We just admin it for them.
The core trade forums are freely available to any and all trade members. They always will be free.
The public and international forums are freely available to any registered member. They also will always will be free.
The related trades forum is restricted and there for plumbers, kitchen fitters and the likes as well as repairers but the public has no access to that. Again, this service will always be free.
But because a large part of what UKW does is totally free it isn’t to say that everything we do, especially for other organisations, can be delivered free.
I hope that explains a lot. 🙂

Apologies for going slightly off topic but could you explain why the ISE forum is restricted? I think it should be open to all trade members so they could make a more informed decision about becoming ISE dealers.

Hi Phidom,
The ISE forum was restricted to ISE dealers to discuss ISE in general for several reasons the most pertinent being that some people were on about about hearing about ISE all the time. The other being that, if you’re not an ISE seller/agent, then there’s really not a lot that’s going to interest you.
However there is access available on request if you are interested and have an open account.
Again though, that’s regulated by ISE, I just admin it really.
K.
