KeymasterHad a call from a chap this morning about finding engineers to do inspection work for insurance companies.
Interesting enough but I found out that they were using the engineer search to find repairers. As in, searching by postcode and brand etc. as intended and then contacting the engineer in the area.
Now, before this goes on general release and all the non-TA members find out about it, I’ve added ALL current WTA members to the search as a very basic listing.
What I can’t add, as I don’t know, is what brands are done by you or where you do them, as in, postcodes. We can only list by specific postcodes, there is no other way.
But if you can get that to me if you’re not on there andy live already, I can add the postcodes for you, tie up your account which will allow you to edit it your own listing yourself, add brands and products etc.

Julian Radley from MJH Aftercare rang me this morning so I figured that is to whom you refer Ken?
Seems OK with me from what he said and as a result have duly obliged by offering my services. Watch this space………… 😉

KeymasterRe: Work Offer, Sort Of…
And I have to say…
After a couple of the more “curious” among us went out and dug deep into the info, uncovering a link that I was completely unaware of. And, in the face of feedback asking to “add” to estimates or spares used quite openly which, is fraudulent BTW…
I’d have to say, stay well clear.
Sorry, but it’s just too dodgy when someone asks to pad out an estimate or job to bill an insurance company for more.
As much as I don’t much care for insurers I have no need nor want to rip them off, nor do I think it’s fair or right to deliberately do so.
In addition, I wouldn’t wish to place any member of the WTA or this site in that sort of position where they might feel obliged to do something illegal.
It’s wrong and had I been asked to do that I’d have politely declined. Obviously all the facts were not made available to me and I was unaware of certain connections.
I was also unaware that my name or that of UKW was being used to further this endeavour, which I’m not exactly ecstatic about either, to say the least. So, let me be clear, this was not sanctioned by me or anyone else, I merely said that (with the info given) that approaching the members of UKW/WTA directly shouldn’t present an issue. Although I did make comment on the rates offered, perhaps why Scotland was apparently left out.
I will allow you all to draw your own conclusions.

I accept your points on the issue and your point of view Ken. And can concur that Julian Radley did use your name as sanctioning the work offer deal which, from your comments, was less that the truth as it happens.
However, I viewed the idea purely as all it required for me to earn £35 was to ‘inspect an appliance’ and report back. Easy money and whilst your morals may be higher than mine as far as insurance companies are concerned, I felt it worthwhile to at least register my interest.
As I said earlier…watch this space…….. 😕

Bear in mind one thing Martin.
You may well work with them and do everything Legit & Kosher, the problem will arise however should others “Exploit” the system and “Earn” Extra revenue. When they get caught the whole operation is drawn into question and all agents suffer as a result.
Just ask an NESN agent what hoops they have to jump through on an Allianz job, all thanks to one certain individual in the smoke.

Had the same phone call today from Julian Radley did use your name as sanctioning the work offer, Ken.
He spoke to my wife/seretary and from what I can gather if the repair is carried out they are not bothered if the invoice is totally accurate, so I am a bit cautious particulary as it likely to create fraudulant claims and link the WTA to malpractice, not to mention the credibility of my business.
I have seen and heard of the dubious practice before from these businesses where they are sent in to evaluate the repair only to “write it off” as BER, and as an extra they are in a position to supply replacement appliances, so one inspection charge and another slice of the cake from a sale. Sure beats repairing them, dont even need anyone qualifed to do the inspectionJury’s still out for me, as for how the WTA react to their methods is another question

Got the same call today from the same guy together with an email that followed… And yes Ken, your name was mentioned again.
The guy offered the same rate for inspection.. £35. He then went on to say that it is obvious that if your rate for repair is low you will get a lot more of the work. That for any work to be accepted by the insurers the quote for the repair would need to come below the insurers limit for the type of machine… IIRC he stated 60{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the value of the machine is the limit for repair.
He also blurped that it was in his interest for the repair to go ahead as he was to load any inspection charge or quotation for repair by 15{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} to the insurers… he is interested in getting as much work accepted by the insurers as possible as this is how the work is profitable for him..
15{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} on top of every inspection charge
15{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} on top of every repair charge
Paid 30 days on account – gathering a little interest tooI must at this point say that I have not read the email yet as I had a more pressing family problem that took priority but I will read it tomorrow.

After I had the call from “Boo Radley”, I done some investigation. His company was offering work on behalf of an insurance loss adjuster in the West Midlands (Best way I could think to describe them)
So I phoned the original company in the Midlands who was considering MJH Aftercare, needed to service areas where there is no cover at present, and that included my area. It transpires this loss adjuster was more than happy to cut out the middle man and use me direct.
Don’t get excited though as I don’t know how he is placed elsewhere in the country, or if there are existing arrangements that are contractual. Hereby follows his rates, which further undermines the MJH offer.
INSPECTION FEES PAID, £42.00 FOR 1st ITEM AND £19.00 FOR ANY ADDITIONAL ITEM INSPECTED IN THE SAME HOUSE AT THE SAME TIME
INSTALL FEES PAID,
FOR ANY ONE MAN ELECTRICAL ITEM IE ELECTRIC HOB, FREESTANDING ELECTRIC COOKER OR SINGLE ELECTRIC OVEN £50.00
NOTE THIS IS FOR A STRAIGHT FORWARD LIKE FOR LIKE REPLACEMENT ONLY , ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE INSTALL OF A REPLACEMENT SHOULD BE NOTED ON THE INSPECTION REPORT, PLEASE QUOTE ACCORDINGLY IF YOU ARE ABLE TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM
FOR ANY TWO MAN ELECTRICAL INSTALL IE A DOUBLE OVEN £75.00 OTHERWISE AS ABOVE
FOR ANY ONE MAN GAS PRODUCT £60.00 + ANY PARTS FOR EXAMPLE A HOSE AND OR STABILITY CHAIN
FOR ALMOST ANY OTHER TYPE OF INSTALL WE WOULD ASK FOR A QUOTE UNLESS YOU INCLUDE A QUOTE TO INSTALL A REPLACEMENT ON THE INSPECTION
WARRANTY REPAIRS ARE DIFFERENT, WE WILL GIVE YOU A LIMIT YOU ARE ABLE TO GO UP TO IT IS USUALLY £150.00 INC VAT. YOU CAN GO AHEAD WITH THE REPAIR UP TO THAT LIMIT WITHOUT REFERENCE TO US ALTHOUGH WE NEED TO KNOW APPOINTMENT HAVE BEEN MADE AND WHAT IS HAPPENING
IF THE REPAIR CANNOT BE COMPLETED WITHIN THE SET LIMIT PLEASE QUOTE AND REMEMBER TO INCLUDE THE SECOND VISIT CHARGE AS WE ONLY WANT ONE INVOICE FOR A WARRANTY REPAIR EITHER FOR A COMPLETED JOB OR AN INSPECTION CHARGE IF THE INSURANCE COMPANY DECIDE NOT TO PROCEED WITH THE REPAIR

Yes indeed Alex, I get where you’re coming from and as I said earlier I will report back at some point. Should this guy Julian contact me at any point since I registered my interest.
Early days perhaps but I’ve heard nowt since…but and who knows what will transpire? wait one… 😕

We were offered the same scenario, inspect, pad out etc.
Have signed up but plan to be quite cautious.
As for inflating costs – we wont play. There are enough charlatans in this game without adding to them. Mind you, bearing in mind the Hotpoint 5 year parts swiz, maybe that is how we are supposed to play ;o)
Alex – which loss adjusters were they, we might like to go direct too?

It seems I am not the only one to get a phone call from him….
Done a few jobs only must admit all the calls that I have received say inspection only.
Would be interested with working direct for the better rates.
Invoices have gone in awaiting to see if they get paid mind you.
Dont get that many calls but have been doubled booked on a job did sed them an invoice for diesel costs.

Hmmmm…don’t hold your breath. :rolls:
Funnily enough I got my first Job “INSPECTION ONLY” request today. A Lamona (whoever they are?) Ceramic Hob with a cracked glass. I emailed back simply saying that I don’t do ceramic hobs. After all I can’t “inspect” and report back on something I do not specialise in now can I?
