During the conference I was approached by 2 manufacturers regarding using WTA members to supplement there existing networks.

With that in mind and allied to Kens post re engineer search if you have changed postcodes ,skill sets etc or haven’t sent your details in and want to can you let us know.

Contact Ian dales.electronic@btopenworld.com with your info

if you are not sure what info is required

    Area Covered

Everyone works by postcode, so make sure you supply all the postcodes you cover NOT Geographical area.

    Point of Contact

A current email address is a must; nearly all companies now email their calls out.
A telephone number, doesn’t matter if it’s a mobile so long as someone answers it or responds to voicemails
Your address details and a fax number if you have one

    Skill Sets

Laundry,Dishwash,Cooking (Electric or Gas) ,Refrigeration (system or non System)

we work on the assumption that everyone repairs both freestanding and integrated products

    Re: work update

Is it possible for all companies that use or potentially use WTA members to be listed here, or at least can someone email me them please.

    Thanks,

    Tim.

In answer to both Tim & Danny (and Danny you already know this as together with Ken, I visited you when you were at Liebherr) and to clarify for those others that want to know the process. The WTA approach/is approached by manufacturers who are looking for either national coverage or need particular areas covering. The team then negotiate a price on behalf of the association members and once this is done the engineer listing is given to said manufacturer. At this point the aforementioned manufacturer selects who if any he wants to use and then duly contacts them with a Service Level Agreement. At this juncture the appliance sales/service company can accept or decline the opportunity. If they accept then they become part of the manufacturers network (ie it is not the WTA network it is the manufacturers network) From this point on the WTA only have the responsibility of policing through its code of practise should a disagreement occur. Without going over old ground, manufacturers select skillsets that they require (ie Liebherr would only select those that carry out refrigeration whilst First4Service would use generally only those able to do cookers both gas and electric)
Now there seems to be a feeling that we are not being transparent with this which is totally untrue, if you go to the ‘Trade work & Vacancies’ area you will see all work that has been offered. That is not to say that if a manufacturer wants an engineer for a particular job we wont offer the information, we do, last week we had a request for an engineer in Taunton and this week so far a refrigeration repair on the Isle of Man.

Please remember that the information supplied in either direction (Company/WTA) is sensitive and usually Company in Confidence ie it is not for the public domain. There are certain companies out there that would love to be able to directly contact the engineer and do a deal that results in the engineer getting less money ~ without mentioning names this happened about 18 months ago and we ended up with chaos, with some engineers getting £35 a call when we had negotiated £50.

Finally and to reiterate, we do not select who gets the work this is done by the manufacturer depending upon their requirements. If you have more skillset then you will get more work. The lists are updated every month and WTA member details forwarded as they join or leave. Work is offered to you, you don’t have to take it nor do the manufacturers have to select you. Its a two way street.

    Re: work update

TBH that’s largely the way I deal with such requests for UKW as well.

Someone gets in touch and asks for a repairer in whatever area to do whatever then you just fire them off a list or, largely, I will tell whoever it is to use the engineer search as most are there.

If asked about who’s best for a particular task then, based on feedback/experience to who’s hacked me off for being a muppet I will answer, if pressed but, I try as best possible to be as impartial as possible.

For example, some people won’t deal with whoever in an area even if they are the best for the job, not my problem if they ask who’s best suited. After that, it’s the second best, third and so on.

After that it’s up to whoever wants the work done to sort it out with the repairers.

What goes on with that, not my concern or business.

    K.
