ParticipantWe have a six year old John Lewis washer dryer which stopped working yesterday. There are no error codes, but when you turn on the machine, it locks the door and tries to start whichever program it is on, even though you haven’t pressed start. But the cycle doesn’t start, instead the timer jumps down to 1 minute and then 0 and the machine beeps to indicate it is finished. Pressing the stop/pause button causes it to restart the process – mostly, though the odd time you can convince it to unlock the door. I’ve tried switching it off and unplugging it, but the issue remains.
Any ideas what might be wrong and how expensive it might be to repair? I’m in two minds whether it is worth it, especially as the machine has had a string of problems since it was new, initially with the pump and motor (thankfully resolved by John Lewis).

ParticipantTry isolating the dryer heaters` wires – pull them off the heater – because it is possible that the actual element has trickled to earth- not enough to take out a trip – this is fairly common and causes many an off beat fault as the earth fault temporarily messes up the pcb. Then see if anything improves. There are two model versions based on your model number begins with 914 but both share the same heater as one unit as an aluminium housing ; in other words it appears you cannot buy just a new heater; typical C21st!!. Possible it could be just the door lock at fault too. Try the first suggestion as that costs nothing to try. If it is proved that all is now well with the dryer wires removed when I looked this up for you the heater unit part number 3486348802 is not available. Whether this is only temporary it did not say. You can look up spares for your John Lewis contraption on the Zanussi uk spares website as I did and it is based on the product code 91460470000 or yours could be a 91460470001 version as read off the machine`s label on the front chassis plate next to the door seal usually a 6 o/clock position.

Today the exact same problem has started happening with my JLWD 1612. Mine is 6 years old too.
Just wondering if you found a solution for it?
