Would a replacement speed control module cure my problems??

Hi All. New to this forum, but hopefully some kind soul will be able to help!

I have a 15 month old Servis M3115W 1100RPM Washing Machine. Recently, an ‘experienced’ road technician put a jcb through the main power line in my street, and caused a power short. It took out my boiler, pc and the washing machine! The pc has been replaced, the boiler in the process, and the washing machine is a different story….

There was noise coming from the water inlet valves/pumps when I turned the dial, but nothing else. When I took the control board out (Elmarc DMPU R5/546021501) I found that several tracks had been blown out: CNC connectors 1 and 2 – the first being the connection to the large white resistors, the one next to it the whole track had been blown out, pin 4 has a chunk missing out of the track, plus on CNA, the first 3 tracks – one connecting to the resistors, and the next two which join together had been burnt out – with a bang judging by the black marks on the case!! I repaired all the tracks and put the board back in. the machine seemed to start working again – but upon checking, the timer doesn’t seem to rotate all of the time, and when I put it on a program – the machine started taking water in, and put all the soap through the machine, but kept flushing the water straight out, without cycling the drum at all.

Question is – will this be cured by me replacing the control board with one from EMW, or is there anything common that could have blown on the board I can check as opposed to replacing it – or is it likely to be anything else? does the speed module control the waste pipe and inlet water as well?

I don’t want to waste £30 odd quid if the machine is still gonna be duff!!

The short answer is Yes….however, these boards can blow tracks due to other causes and electrical checking of the element/motor and wiring should be done.
Assuming there are no leaks “shorting” the motor and the appliance is electrically sound, it should repair your fault.

There is always a chance that the “street” problem took the timer also, but no way to check that out.

Thanks for that Kevin, I did trace all the issues last night, and everything points back to the burnt out tracks on the board – waste water pump, motor control and timer control – all connect to the damaged tracks 🙁

I have also removed the timer to check this – but it is a relatively simple unit, emplying a series of reed switches and I have rotated the unit carefully and they all seem to connect/disconnect properly – I will test with a multimeter today. The motor appears to be ok, as when it decides to spin, it does so quietly and properly – it’s just it is only doing it when it feels like!! Think I will order a new module today then… 😉

Is there an easy way to test the motor windings are ok, or should I just test the field by checking continuity?

Ok, I need some help…..

Got my replacement control board from EMW – no probs. However, whilst testing everything else, I removed the timer switch. Everything was marked up, but I’ve just found someone (no names mentioned 🙁 ) had rubbed a couple of markings off, and I am unsure of the placing of a couple of connections. One just doesn’t fit right. In particular the blue mains wire, and the black line marked “6” with two wires, one running from the door lock, and the other marked “6T”!

If anyone has one of these units, or even a wiring diagram – wire numbers connecting where on the timer I would REALLY appreciate it asap! I don’t particularly want to have another speed module board pack up on me….. 😯

Product code for machine is M3115W – can’t find a product code on the timer dave. Which one do you need?

3 possible places to look Ian – open the door and see if there’s a label – the long number starting with 9 is the one Dave wants. If it’s not there, open the filter flap – the slightly older ones have the label on the inside of the flap. Failing that, there may be a label on the rear of the machine up at the top.

the three wires in particular i’m looking at are the two black wires marked “9T”, the two black wires marked either “6” or “9” and the thick blue wire which is makred either “6” or “9”……..

Any help will be massively appreciated guys!

I think that diagram just makes things worse! Doesn’t seem to correlate with the machine wiring now i’ve checked it…. 😥

Anyone help with maybe a photo????

Have you tried phoning EMW bigi ?

They have to be able to test the modules under load so in theory should know where each connection goes.

well…finally worked out the italian diagrams……machine working now!

Drain pump motor winding was damaged on the connection to the mounting post, so sorted that. only question is – the water valves and the drain pump etc are all 230V AC – so why are the wires marked black and red on the drain pump? It doesn’t matter which way the wires connect does it????
