ParticipantAnd so the saga continues…..!
I replaced all 3 relays on board and the dishwasher has been great…..up until this week!
The oh complained the dishwasher needed salt because it was leaving white marks on everything – refilled everything but still the same. When I checked it was grease…..so cleaned out dishwasher filters and put a cleaning bottle in on intensive 65’. Opened door and water stone cold!
there are no errors showing up and the cycles are running normally like everything is ok – when the element failed before it gave an error.
is this likely to be a faulty replacement relay or something else worth checking? The control board on this is a pain in the #*@!* to get out….!

ParticipantCheers for the reply again Dave!
I don’t think it’s the motor because I can hear it running and the water is getting distributed by the arms.
I did notice that the water was getting slightly above cold after running for a while, but not hot enough to melt the wax seal on a dishwasher cleaning bottle! I also noticed a two hour clean cycle was stuck on 1:23 for about an hour u til I cancelled it last night, which suggests maybe heater circuit – but when it failed last time I got an error code, this is giving nothing, and I would have suspected a heating timeout fault?June 29, 2024 at 11:17 am #488134electrofix

just had a job like that motor runs and no heat
change motor and it heats again
heater was not open circuit so its was not the heater that was at fault
problem is the use the motor as a sensor to detect water flow

ParticipantWtaf that is stupid! How on earth would that make sense – Motor is circulating water and heater is ok but not heating?! Only possible reason for that I can think of is a failed impeller….but surely that would stop the water flow?

Moderatoryou have to remember they use motor current as a sensor. as the motor ages and bearing get loose the rotor will start to contact the stator walls. this causes friction and increases current which throws off the board
there is no water level sensor in this machine so they use the motor to make sure there is enough water flow to turn on the heater. if bars are blocked, water diverter is stuck or the motor current is not correct it wont heat
makes life a lot more difficult

ParticipantThanks for the explanation, makes more sense now. Although the motor was replaced when I replaced the heater housing last year – after your help I discovered that the housing part number quoted actually referenced a motor/pump part number as well. I bought both and they mate together fine, the pipe out of the heater housing is slightly different positioning, but connects perfectly.
so if the motor has failed this soon I will be surprised (but not too shocked these days….!)
guess the only way to test would be pulling the motor and checking for play?

Moderatorit also wont heat if there is something blocking the impellor so its worth looking
get bits of plastic all the time

ParticipantSo finally had chance to spend some time with the patient today!
from the service Manual I initiated the self
test mode – it firstly displays the f08 error (which is obviously because of the earlier error), then it starts the test cycle, but stops after about a minute reporting f10 with a flashing orange start button – but I can hear a pump still running until I force it to stop?July 2, 2024 at 1:58 pm #488140bigi
ParticipantI’ve just done some basic tests – heater element shows approx 27.5R across the terminals with cable disconnected, pump wires are fine between pump and board, motor showing 36R across terminals – does that seem a bit low?

ParticipantSo, I’ve taken the pump and heater unit out to clean it, and tested the heater element again – this time at the terminals not the heater element itself. One of the thermal fuses has gone again – same as last time, but this time didn’t throw an f08 error, just kept running without heating? Only difference this time is I’ve replaced the heater relays too?
from the service manual, it seems there is an integrated thermal fuse and a thermal protector, the side connected to pin 3 on the control board (dea603 board) appears to be the thermal fuse.
it’s the relays already replaced, its lasted 9
months this time – is there anything else I should consider? -
