Re: WTA / UKW SEPTEMBER 2010 MEETING

Very well presented, and the turn-out was impressive.

Importantly nice to put some faces to names as well as see some old friends.

Only disappointment was the fact that some representatives of call management companies failed to stay for the whole duration. It was very apparent how a number of people evaporated after lunch and as soon as the debate turned to money.

Don’t suppose we should expect any different.

    C’est La Vie.

    Highly inconspicuous though.

I don’t know how to say this, but they seemed rather aloof. Everyone else seemed to go out of their way to say hello, shake hands etc. Maybe I was in the wrong places at the wrong times.

However I mustn’t let that small matter cloud what was a very good event.

Was nice to see you all there, new faces everywhere!

Now looking forward to the WTA / UKW engineers meeting in Feburary, especially if George (Allsorts) comes along, he buys lots of rounds πŸ˜†

Re: WTA / UKW SEPTEMBER 2010 MEETING

I have to thank everyone that was there and took the time to attend. It was very good.

    Special thanks goes to…

Tina (cracking job on the badges and fire reg stuff)

Debbie (for being married to Lawrence and putting up with us all as well as the work)

Bryan (for sorting all the rooms out, ALL the rooms as well as the hotle, badges and a host of other stuff, above and beyond as usual)

Lawrence (for all the work behind the scenes and hosting the meeting)

John Hopwood (who as usual delivered some cracking stuff and did loads off stage)

Steven (who ran about like a loon all day making sure it all worked)

Chris (P45) ( for all the tinkering with the sound kit to make it work)

Ian Dales (for sorting out all the invites et all)

Ade (who worked all day hard on making sure stuff got done)

Sean (for being there and doing his usual)

And, probably a host of other people that all helped in making this meeting, quite simply, the best we’ve ever had to date. Thanks to them all I had to do was turn up and do a little speech or two… well maybe not quite but, let’s just say that without the help of all involved there’s no way on Earth that it could have been done.

These people are, in all honesty, just fantastic in the effort, time and dedication that they offer. Asides from which, the professionalism shown by all, attending repairers and others included, was just astounding.

Whilst I’m in a thanking mood, I would like to thank all the companies that helped and supported this meeting to make it happen, like Amica, Swift Electrical, AWS Services, Qualtex, Masterpart, HT Maddocks, DASA and others that don’t really want named. Cheers guys, it really did all help and was deeply appreciated that you deemed the repairers important enough to actually help. Personally you all have my gratitude for the help and support offered.

I was really pleased that there were so many WP’s, manufacturers and suchlike that attended. Asides from the fact that it’s really nice to chat to all it’s nice to talk to some old friends and spar over stuff, even better in the friendly atmosphere created at these events. It all helps the repairers understand the industry outside of their little corner of the world and, from what I was hearing, the manufacturers and others understand repairers better.

That is exactly what these events are all about.

    Case in point, DASA.

We’ve all seen (read) on here the old debates about DASA. What you all didn’t know was that, behind the scenes, I still talked to DASA and tried to help where I could. You didn’t know that the WTA council were happy to work with DASA to the point where we offered them an open invitation to this meeting and to work on what they could together. The reason is very simple, this trade (and yes, I call it a trade) is too small for in-fighting between repairers, you have to work together to get the best results.

Fair play to DASA, we had Steve Debeger the current Vice Chairman speak and talk a lot of sense at the meeting as well as putting forward a few good points in Q&A as well as council members Jason Huby and Phil Dill attend, who it was for me really good to see on a personal level. That aside, it is fantastic to see these various organisations working together and helping one another. It really is a breath of fresh air.

Then we have spares suppliers trying to work with the WTA and repairers to help.

Manufacturers, such as Amica and others all trying to work with the repairers.

    Even some work providers.

They’ve all sussed that we’re not there to give anyone a kicking. We’re there to try to enter into a dialogue, understand, change and do what we can to improve things for us as well as everyone else with the most important party being the customer. The focus of that is often lost so far as I can see with many diverted away form that simplistic point.

Working collaboratively is the only way that this can be accomplished. Confrontation serves little purpose.

Often the UKW/WTA meetings are misunderstood as being the kids throwing their teddies out the pram and just slagging people off. It isn’t. It never was. Perhaps people are starting to wake up to that fact.

I hope that this meeting above all others has proven that beyond any doubt.

So once again, thank you to all that worked so hard to make it all happen, those that took the time to attend and those that supported the effort.

I think it was all worth the effort and it was a cracking meet.

    K.
