Less than 3 years old and bearings are gone…
Am I right in thinking that this is not a Bosch?
Bearing kit is a bit pricey at €170 and I’ve never done one before so I’d like to know if anyone has and are there any gotchas.
Does the shaft normally need replacing too? if so , then it’s another €170 or so for parts and I don’t think the customer will go for that.
Also, will the new kit last longer than the old kit or are they a bad design?
I want to get as much info as possible before i give him a price.

    Cheers

As far as I can remember I think THIS BEARING KIT will probably fit?

If you find the shaft is damaged then forget it. Fitting these bearing kits may give the machine another year or two at best, 6 months at worst. 🙁

    Thanks Martin,
Couldn’t really think of even looking at it if the chance is they won’t last long…whether the shaft is good or not….

It’s tough on the owner as this was a very expensive m/c to begin with and i’m sure he bought Bosch thinking of it being trouble free for a while.
Given the age ,I’d happily pass this on to the manufacturer and if this was a Lux or even an Indesit they would cover the major parts plus a standard labour charge with no question asked.
I rang Bosch, just to see, and they said it’s over two years old, we’re not interested. Terribly frustrating….

True but you knew they would say that before you rang them. It’s what they do as they give their customer the option of extended warranty on first registration. So there is no excuse as far as they are concerned, options given but not taken up.

Also it’s a washer dryer so by definition are vulnerable heaps of tin from the outset. I’m not sure if this one comes from their Spanish Balay factory or if it is Smeg junk by the way.
