ParticipantHas any of you had any experience of advertising with yell.com?
How efficient / economical was it?
Did it get any scores?
Is it the way that advertising is going?
Thanks for any advice.

the good thing is they can tell you how many hits you have had, ours have gone up about 400 per year. now at about 1200 a year, i am sure that some of those people pick up the phone and call. there search engine is working much better now than it did in my first year with them. they charge extra for silly things like a link to your website. overall i think a lot of people are using yell rather than searching through all those sections in the yellow pages. i for one put the yellow pages straight in the recycle bin at home

Did you not realise you can get the same information from your own website? And that most people search Google these days for Internet information without pratting about on yell.com.:rolls:
Looking for a washing machine repairer in Tiverton on Google is a darn site quicker and costs you nothing….!!!
Don’t give Yell the pleasure of your money just for them to tell you how many ‘hits’ you’ve had, when your own website is working far better for nowt my friend. 😉

your own website will appear way down the list yell is at least at the top and is well known search site I wouldnt want to do away with it. everyone has there own ideas about advertising but for me the places I would look for other everyday services I might use is the place I would advertise “my” services.

I advertise weekly in three local market town papers, a local business directory and yell.
After most repairs I ask the new customer where they got my number giving me an idea of response from each ad.
Another great source is my local hairdresser, I give him £50 cash per year in return for three A4 posters made up from my own desk top publishing software, these are put below the mirror and in front of the cutting chair, hey presto a captivated audience for at least an hour.
Advertising can be a suck it and see exercise so don’t spend £££££££££££££.

Round this area the local paper plus the free papers, Thompsons, Yellow Pages etc are synonymous with the few local cowboys still in operation, with one or two notable exceptions.
I have not advertised anywhere for over 25 years and am always busy.
Word of mouth is the best advertising that money CANNOT buy. 😉
