I think it is still popular with the older generation, a lot of old folks have absolutely no interest in computers IMO.
They are generally my fave customer type too.. never leave the house, so very few wasted trips π cups of tea & possible home baking, usually very prompt payers.Think YP are simply gonna have to sack their reps though.. its a totally outdated model.
(and i cant fekkin stand ’em)
If we could just book the ad online & pay a lot less they might keep my custom for another few years. πJuly 28, 2010 at 10:11 am #326066iadom

I still get quite a lot of work from the book.
Deffo need to get rid of the reps and let people book/renew adverts online.
Sick to death of some smarmy sales guy driving BMW’s ringing to say their running late.
Told Tompson’s not to bother this year, their books are more like comics.September 1, 2010 at 8:19 am #326069cornwell40

Dropped Tomsons around five years ago…no difference.
Dropped the Phone book two years ago…..slight difference.
Monitor most of the phone calls coming in and about 30{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of my calls are still YP so in currnt climate don’t want to rock the boat just yet. Agree with losing the reps though, same s**t year after year and I always cancel their ideas and do my own online in the end.TC

i too was surprises at the “new handy size” what a disapiontment generally its the old folks that use the book. The new generation will use yell.com and 118. But the service from the reps is dyer!!!! and the art deptment well they must pay peanuts because they empoly monkeys to design the adverts. My 5 year old nephew can design a better advert than they can.
But all that aside it is financal suicide not use the yellow pages group. This is generally the best way to advertise yourself to get new work that is chargable and direct payment. i think that the price is expensive but this surely will detour “the ones that play at it”.
When speaking to new customers about where they got your number it is generally from the yellow pages group, you will always have recommendations from friends and family. You have to advertise or the work will dry up.September 4, 2010 at 8:00 pm #326071iadom

Haven’t used them for about 7 years. In fact they have a note on thier system to never bother me again after they ripped me off. (I told them what I’d do to any of thier reps if they ever showed up at my doorstep).
It’s had a small impact, but local advertising and the web has negated that.

Ditto.
I Would have to get a lot of charegable profit under my belt to justify the cost. Before the days of Google, yes you had to be in Yellow Pages to keep up with the competition. Y.P. Is history.

I note edthespiv’s location is Alicante, Spain. That could make a huge difference.

Well done for getting the accent right π .
He could also be serving a significant population of ex-pats who don’t speak Spanish as well as you!

I have defended Yellow pages before and will have to again, 3 out of every 5 new customer pic ups say they got our details from there…….whats more, others who have used us before but lost details used yellow pages as a look up guide to find our number without knowing our name, I guess the logo or something in the ad must jog memories and this is despite reducing spend by 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} with them over the past 5 years, would have rduced more if it were not for the need to go into other area books and some new classifications. I dont think the huge, flashy adverts work as, as others have said, its mainly the older folks who use it and they like to something they recognise or looks reliable and honest.
I have the rep coming on Tuesday morning and will see what he has to offer. I have not yet seen a new style book so cannot comment on that yet.September 8, 2010 at 11:59 am #326078Martin

I too have renewed my YP advertising for 2011 albeit scaled down dramatically to just 2 small block ads in 2 books. And have paid up front to avoid the VAT hike next year. (not being VAT registered I save where I can.)
On thing I have found out though from all this is that YP no longer do FREE entries. They stopped that this year as they are not obliged to list all similar businesses that don’t wish to advertise with them. Currently Thomson still do but YP have pulled the plug on that one! π―
