He came round yesterday to renew add
Last year I spent nearley £3000 on the adds
This year I told him I was not going to spend more than £1000
He gave me the same adds but in B&W not colour for under £1000 😀
I put myself back in yell.com in August after a break of a year because of my new website to attract new business. The stats I have for myself for August are
    Cost £58.00 pm
    Total jobs from yell.com = 4
    total income from Yell.com £140.00
Hits on my website from yell.com for Aug 35
Time will tell if it’s worth it long term

Clever barstewards that they are flogging these Yell.com statistics though most of which is total ‘ page views’ ballcocks! 🙁

They play with figures on their laptop prior to knocking on your door by the way……….and if you get a chance to spy on the paperwork your rep carries you will spot the ‘potential sales opportunity’ of your account. And in most cases it is classified by their managers as GOLDEN, meaning they must put on the big sell to grab your money…..” sign here, here, here and here please….thankyou…have a nice day!”

Yell pages and Yell .com are in the deep doo doo and desperate to flog advertising space no matter to who or how they do it. Advertise with them by all means but don’t be hoodwinked by flashy sales tosh that means bu$$er all for you ATEOTD.

I think it depends where you live. Not worth it for me stuck on the end of a peninsula surrounded by only 20,000 potential customers within 10 miles. But if you live in a big city or cover half a county then it might be worth it.

    Re: yellow pages

This is the way I look at it. From a consumers point of view, even a “silver surfer”

I’m in the plus 55 age bracket, I never use the telephone book, nor do I use yellow pages. I Google everything. Like many I have wireless B/Band and apart from accessibility in the office, the home machine is on-line all day. A few years ago we all had 1 phone and that would have been on the hall table with the books underneath, now we all enjoy cordless handsets, and consequently the books could be anywhere, (in my case so could the phone). So much easier to press a button, and see instant up to date information on the screen.

Therefore I have no need for books or directories which end up at the back of the cupboard or wherever. So being a typical consumer, despite a lack of youth, my first port of call is the web. If I’m doing it that way, you can be sure so does most of a younger generation.

Now looking at it from the business point of view:-

I used to spend £6k p.a. on Yellow pages, now reduced to less than £200 p.a. The Y.P. salesmen cannot deny they are finding life difficult. Even Yell.com is a no brainer.

When the Y.P. rep met me 2 years ago he told me I was mad. I keep everything on spread sheets, and I can confirm there is no drop at all in chargeable work. My warranty work and insurance work has increased, and so has the chargeable pro-rata. I was prepared to take a drop as I never thought I was pulling in enough traffic from Y.P. to cover the outlay, and I’ve proved it.

    WASTE OF MONEY.

    Re: yellow pages

I came out of Yell and Yell.com 3 years ago, used to spend about £4k a year, same as Alex I invested a lot less money in my IT and website and found I havent lost any chargeable calls but gained more from my website and through out of warranty recomendations from manufacturers, I will never advertise with them again or other directories complete waste of money.
