ParticipantHi 🙂 I have a Hotpoint Mistral FF92P, Type R134A and a couple of problems have developed almost overnight. I am no expert and will try to describe the problems:
The temperatures of both freezer and fridge have risen and are swaying between freezer: -11 – 0 degs. and fridge: approx. 6 – 18 degs.
The side walls of the fridge are getting hot, mainly around the door area.
It makes an odd fluctuating whirring sound from the motor area behind the freezer compartment. The fan starts up and the light is working when opening and closing the door. I get the impression that its overheating, reaching a certain temperature, cutting out until it cools down, then starting up again.
The problems arose about two weeks ago and searching the web for a possible solution I came by this website, but this appears to be a different problem to those already posted. It started working again properly 2 or 3 days later which is why I didn’t post my query then.
Another point which I noticed last time was that the metal cover at the rear of the thing appeared to be live ❗ (There was a tingling feel to it as if touching tiny pins & needles, which wasn’t there when unplugged! This isn’t the case this time round 🙂 )
I am now in the process of defrosting the appliance.
Any explanation or tips for this behaviour would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks in advance!

ParticipantCan’t help with electrical fault need to check earth in plug and socket. However transum and sides feeling warm usually points to condensor fan failure or condensor been blocked with fluff. Condensor can be cleaned by removing front lower plinth. Fan by removing rear lower cover. Hope this helps

Hi 🙂 Thanks for the quick response 😀
I cleaned the parts as suggested, there wasn’t really a lot of fluff in it. I cleaned the front part last time and the fan this time round. After the defrost, there wasn’t a lot of water underneath either.
Anyway, it seems to be working fine for the time being but still sounds a little odd. (Been keeping an eye on it, hence my late response.)
If it breaks down again with the same symptoms, are the parts available here?
Thanks again 🙂

Hello again… the thing worked for a while and now the problems have started again 🙁
Temperatures of both fridge and freezer fluctuating and the odd ‘whirring’ sound.
Any ideas or reasons for the behaviour would be greatly appreciated! If it is the condenser fan, are the parts available here? Thanks
