ParticipantI have a Samsung SR-S2025CVW, it is 3.5 years old.
Just noticed a problem with it last night.
The digital display shows the freezer/fridge temperatures at setpoint (-20 / 3), and all appears fine. On opening the freezer, it is obviously not that cold, as some frozen produce is starting to go soft. If the unit is powered off at the plug, and then powered on, when the digital display comes back up it shows the actual internal temperatures (-5/11). The compressor kicks in and the temperature display can be seen to gradually come down to setpoint.
I left the unit on all night, and this morning it still appeared fine. I kept half an eye on the unit all day and the temperature display never wavered. Tonight, getting something out to the freezer, the whole routine above has been repeated.
There is no ice build up in either the fridge or freezer, the condenser is clean, the fan runs, and when the controls call for it, it cools perfectly.
I am an Aircon Engineer by trade, so not completely green as to how this thing is supposed to work.
It initially looks to my untrained eye that this may be a PCB error, as the digital readout does not appear to be changing with the internal temperature. Is it the same circuit that controls the display, that controls the thermostat, and for some reason this is locking out and not following the actual cabinet temperature. Any experts have any other ideas? Could it be a problem with the defrost program / sensor, although there is no frosting? Finally the repairs@ does not give any links to service people in my area (East Sussex) can you give any ideas on where a PCB could be obtained for this thing if it should be needed.Forgot to mention, that the unit did not just reach setpoint and then never start again. The compressor was cycling on and off during this morning.
Yours hopefully
Andy

I have got the same problem as you Andy.My problem began just a month out of guarantee. An engineer came out, didn’t wait for the iced panel to defrost and ripped off the back panel.
We have to manually defrost both the freezer and fridge every week or less. The electronic display goes haywire everyreezer so often, and basically we can’t use the freezer side,it’s too unreliable.
Looks great siver & swish but it’s been a very expensive mistake.
DO NOT BUY ONE!

Just an update on my problem.
It has been diagnosed as a failed defrost heater, which means it is repairable. Just awaiting the engineer to get the replacement parts and install them.

Hi all,
I finally got around to calling in a fridge engineer to my Samsung side by side fridge freezer. Although I had fully defrosted all the ice lying behind the upper crisper tray, I could not get the inside back panel off to see what was behind it. The engineer couldn’t remove it at first, but used a wallpaper steam stripper and gradually freed up the panel so that it could be removed. Behind it was a wall of ice that had stopped the fan from running and allowed ice to build up more rapidly. Once he had defrosted everything, the fan started to run freely again and the fridge reached its correct temperature after about an hour.
He warned me that the same thing was probably going to happen on the freezer side, but at least I know how to tackle that when it occurs. It’s a simple job once you have watched someone else do it, there is no need to pay an engineer. The hardest part was melting the ice but a wallpaper steamer minus the wall-plate does the trick in minutes. You may have to repeat the exercise every 2 or 3 years as the ice builds up again.July 1, 2005 at 12:57 pm #134091clever dicky

Clever Dicky,
Not sure if you were answering my original post or others follow ups.
My machine is now back in the land of the living. It worked out to be the defrost sensor on the fridge which was the culprit. It appeared to be correct when measured at an ambient temp, but was not responding quickly enough in a defrost situation, and hence not stopping the defrost. For whatever reason the thermal fuse did not cut out the defrost heater, and the heater burnt out.
Replaced the heater, thermal fuse only to have the thermal fuse pop on the first defrost cycle.
Changed the sensor and the thermal fuse second time round and all been tickety boo ever since.Bone

Yea I was, thanks for the info. Its just nice to get your head around and understand some of these problems. I couldnt work out why you had high temps while on defrost, but you’ve answered that.
Glad you’ve got it sorted.

Hi Andy,
Please can I point you towards my post at viewtopic.php?f=33&t=10781 with regard to your Samsung Fridge.
I have the same problems you were experiencing, and I think you may be able to help me physically identify the components that have failed.
My forum post is asking for the physical location of the thermal fuse/defrost sensor/heating element and their appearance/wire colours. I imagine they’re behind the plastic panel behind the salad crisper but I still can’t find them!
You made things sound so easy in your post!
(If this has ended up in your personal email inbox, you can email me back on richard_emm@hotmail.com.)
Thanks,
Richard -
