Simple job – WM with the following faults:

fills all the time even when turned off
doesn’t always take the detergent away and takes ages to fill and faults occasionally and aborts (not filling quickly enough???) – the appliance is totally irrelevant.

Filling all the time easy to diagnose. For lack of pressure I took supply hose off check supply pressure and got lots and I mean lots of the stuff in the photos – inlet filter was choked (an probably the valves as well) and fill pipe was full as well – probably got quater of a pint of the stuff from the filter and pipe…

When I showed it to the lady she said she has had a succession of plumbers in to try and sort it out – she was getting it in her drinking water and and every where there was fresh water in the house – no doubt costing her hundreds of pounds…… Took me a little while to sus it out and 2 minutes to confirm my thoughts.

If you know don’t let it out of the bag yet… let a few people have some a guess 😀 😀

You were spot on eastlmark. I thought that initially but then the lady said, it can’t possibly, I paid some one to disconnect it last year. Plumber had charged her for disconnecting it but had just unpluged it!! It was obviously faulty and allowing the resin to get in to the cold water feed for the house.

When the stuff (Resin) is wet it’s almost like sand but larger sized particles. When it’s dry it’s like beads and spreads every where…

I just thought I’d share my findings, no doubt many of you have seen it before but first time for me.

What’s the resin called ?- can’t remember, must have covered it in DW training but can’t remember.

ooops, 😳 sorry to ruin your thread competition, it was a shot in the dark though although it does look like the stuff in dishwasher water softners.

They are beads of polystyrene (also known as zeolite). 🙂

No worries mate. I was just pleased with myself for spotting something I’d never seen before and as I’ve now got a phone with a decent camera(even though it’s a hand me down from the misses) I took a few pictures and posted accordingly.

The lady was that chuffed she gave me tip by rounding my bill up – only £2.50 but enough for me to buy a pint when I go for Sunday lunch today. 😀 😀 😀 😀
