ParticipantHow many times over the years have I been to calls where it turns out there’s nothing wrong with the machine? Quotes like: “It’s completely dead!”….. “It’s not spinning!”…..”I can’t open the door!”…..the list goes on.
Today I had yet another typical example, in this case it was a Hoover A3790. Though not in the flush of youth, it is a nice example of the vintage and all in good working order. Customer swears blind the machine HAD completed the cycle, switched itself off and when she heard the door interlock click, couldn’t open the door? I get there to find it was in fact only just at the end of the last rinse and for some reason, as the customer claimed it had “finished”. 🙄
After me fuffing around checking the door release mechanism, the programme dial etc etc, then bored mindlessly watching it complete the end of the cycle, all the while ‘interrogating my customer’. It turned out that the customer actually intended to put the machine on for an extra fast spin but had ‘forgotten’ to switch it on. Had come back to the machine after taking a shower and assumed it had finished ❓
Ah well, £45 in my pocket for her absentmindedness so I shouldn’t grumble. 😀

Candy Turbo 21 in the mid 80’s.
Called to attend a leak, searched and searched all over the thing. No leaks but strong evidence there was over-dosing. Woman was threatening to sue the makers due to floor/unit damage. So I had to be 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}.
Showed her the inside, and soapy stains on the floor, still having none of it. Put the thing together, filled out the P/Work and left.
Wen’t back a week later, this time she was about to sue us. Again went through the lot. The evidence that was there last week that I had cleaned up was back. Still was having none of it.
During questioning, I asked her, was the front door of the machine white with suds? she said emphatically… “No”
Little kiddy in the kitchen piped up; “Yes it was Mummy, don’t you remember”? Mum says, “Shut up, no it wasn’t.” “Yes it was mummy, and there was water coming out from underneath”. “It was not white!!”. “Well I saw that it was, and you were here when it did it”.
Shopped by her own sprog. I charged her the call out, never heard another thing. She may as well had been honest in the 1st place.

I may have mentioned already the lady who wanted a new hose for a Dyson DC01. When she first rang she mentioned that she had already had a new hose only a couple of months before. I thought nothing about it, assuming someone else had supplied to previous one. I duly ordered the hose and she came to collect it (I had suggested that it should not be too difficult for them to fit it, although I ended up fitting it, gratis). When she arrived she again said about already having had a replacement hose, this time claiming that I had fitted it. I knew I had not ordered one of these hoses for quite some months so I checked back in my records. Sure enough, I had repaired her Dyson a couple of months before, I fitted a new On / Off switch 🙄

new wave leaving black marks on sheets etc.
no fault found….advice……no fault found…..advice…..no fault found…..
I’ll change the bearings if you insist…..2 years later when I went back for another fault…..i assume changing the bearings stopped the black marks then? no said the customer but changing my steam iron did.She was 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure the marks were there when she got the clothes out of the washer. You can’t tell them can you.
