KeymasterThe other day I was reading an article in The Economist (I know, high brow and all that) about the proliferation of cameras and so on in light of wearable technologies and that Google Glass will likely go mainstream in 2014. If you don’t know what Glass is, see here
Now, as most of the regulars know, I’m a bit into the whole technology thing and I like the economics thing so the article made a few points that are perhaps profound but probably insofar as we are concerned, worrisome.
One of the things that got brought up was that several companies are looking to use wearable tech such as cameras and recording devices to prevent fraud by customers. That’s pretty scary.
More though, seems that several customers may well be using these technologies as well to prove their case also.
It would appear that the “pinhole” spy cameras are very liable to become the preserve of all and not just the likes of Watchdog. For the likes of repairer’s that’s a bit of a concern because, knowing what some modern customers are like, they’d use it quite happily to nail you to a cross, draw and quarter you.
Of course these things, like most, will have their place and will likely prove to be a benefit to some situations but I just wanted to let you all know that at times, you might be on camera and not even have a clue.
No TV station required. Just a $100 device and YouTube.

Like you Ken I’m into my tech and have been aware of this stuff for years.
I’ve always had the attitude that when I’m in a customers house I might be ‘on camera’ so to speak, and Ive done my best to behave accordingly. (I must admit, I fail more often than I like).I’ve been to a couple of ‘trading standards’ set ups when I was working for a different company back in the day (they’re so obvious), and I wouldn’t be surprised that there were cameras there at the time.
So for me it’s nothing new, I just behave as though I’m under the microscope all the time.

Same here, am convinced some of the call I’ve done in the past have been too easy
But so long as we do it right there can’t be anything to worry about……. Can there ??Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

What is it the naive say “if you got nothing to hide you got nothing to worry about”.

Apparently (according to the Daily Wail anyway) the smart TV I just bought has a built in spy camera watching my every move and monitors every web page I smurf.
(I’m watching Paul O’Grady at the moment waiting for my tea – but then Google knows that anyway)
