I have had this machine for ages now, but over the past few months it has been getting noisier and stiffer to turn the drum by hand.

    Is it worth repairing?

(please bear in mind this is our 5th appliance to go wrong in 6 months, so funds are a bit limited!)

It’ll probably be a worn front bearing felt. Put your hand in the drum and feel down at the front of the drum. There will be a gap in between the drum itself and the plastic front housing. Push your fingers gently into that slot and drag them around to the top of the drum, keeping them in the slot. If the gap is wide at the bottom and closed at the top, the front bearing felt is worn out.
Replacement requires strip down, drum out and rebuild. Usually worthwhile on these driers. Once the felt is fitted, the interior vaccuum’d out and the moving parts lubricated, it should run like a new ‘un. 😉
Also check the back bearing for wear by removing the little white cap at the back of the machine and check for metal grindings. Felt and back bearing are both inexpensive parts. Even if an engineer does the job, it will be loads cheaper than a new one.
Repair is preferable to replacement as the new machines are no better……

Unplug the machine before any inspection starts…..:plug:

Ahh, on closer inspection there is a narrow gap at the bottom but it is completely tight at the top so it looks like you were right.

Spares look cheap enough so will attempt a repair I think.

Many many thanks, this forum is great! 😀
