ParticipantHave a 4 year old 1200 jetsytem washing machine (model no. WJD1257W) – out of warranty.
The problem is that water is not draining during a wash cycle and I end up with an E20 error message. Lowering the drainage pipe to the floor allows the water out so I think the pump is bust.
I have removed the pump – no sign of a blockage there – the pump seems to spin ok by hand, there is a little resistance which I understand is normal.
I have checked the front filter -all ok. Should I look at the other pipes that feed into the drainage system?
I don’t want to just buy a new pump if that isn’t the problem. How easy is it to check if the pump is working. I am not keen to use a washrinse program as it means draining by hand if the pump is at fault 🙁 Had enough water on the kitchen floor already 🙁
Any help appreciated 🙂

There is no easy way to check the pump is operating correctly other than under load (i.e. pumping water out of the machine) An experienced engineer can usually diagnose this by the sound it makes….if there is a blockage then the pump although operating correctly makes a different sound.
The best thing you might do is to simply check the whole system for blockages from the tub to the house drain and if that seems ok then you can be fairly sure the pump is at fault. (it is not unknown for these pumps to fail and they are not desperately expensive to replace)

Thanks for that. I think there is some backfill from the sink, the waste pipe is higher than the u-bend but its difficult to do much else under the sink.

Well this is strange.
After running the first test wash the machine stuck again in the same place with an E20 error. Disconnected the waste pipe and prepared for more manual emptying.
Then during the rinse cycle the water started to gush out of the pipe with some real force – even with two buckets I struggle to keep up with it. This wasn’t the case two nights ago. Even with the waste pipe elevated it still gushed out.
Has my pump started to work????

The pump should be almost silent when running. If it makes a slight burring noise, not unlike an electric drill on hammer action but much quieter, the cylindrical magnet has worn the plastic housing and will become erratic in function. With the pump motor removed, see if you can move the impellor from side to side – any noticable movement and the motor unit should be replaced.
Power off, of course.

When I removed it this morning it seemed ok – it had some resistance which I understand is ok.
Just running another wash cycle to see what happens. Wife is happy as at least she is getting up to date with her washing. 🙂

Just run the second test wash. Back to limp old water. So maybe the pump sprung into life for a while on that first wash.
I am gonna order a new pump.
