The machine has started overfilling. Woke up to find the tub completely full with water overflowing out of the soap drawer! The drain pump does work on the manual setting. It has since continued to overfill. Is there a level sensor on the tub to control the fill volume, or is it more complicated than that? Any advice on what to check would be welcome.

    thanks,

    Ike

    Ike hi

Is the machine filling with water even though no program has been selected or does it only overfill whilst it is set to do a wash?

    Regards

I set program D and it fills as normal then starts the wash. Later in the cycle the water level increases (rinse?). And then it overflows.

sounds like a blocked/dirty pressure chamber or faulty pressure switch.

The pressure switch is usually a smallish round device with wiring and a small thing hose attached to it. At the other end the hose will fit into small chamber connected to the tub.

If the hose or chamber are blocked up with old soap and goow, it doesn’t blow enough air up the hose to activate the switch to tell the machine to stop filling with water. Check this chamber and hose is clean first.

If not this, its likely to be the pressure switch. This can be obtained from this site email spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk to obtain availability and price first.

Before working on any appliance remember safety first. ALWAYS disconnect the appliance from the mains supply BEFORE working on it.

If you have any doubts on resolving this, seek specialist advice, the repairs@ facility located on the left hand side of this forum in the navigation box would be a good port of call.

    Good Luck

Thanks for the advise. I’ll check the switch first. I’m competent to take the machine apart as I had previously fitted new drum bearings.

    Jackal,

Thanks for the advice, the hose to the pressure switch had fretted through leaving a pinhole. BTW, another problem it has is that it does not take the fabric conditioner from the soap drawer- any idea why?

    many thanks again,

    Ike

Dirty/blocked syphon is likely the cause of conditioner not going through. That is if its fitted & sitting in place correctly in the first place.
If you put conditioner in to below the level, then fill slowly with cold water from jug, as water level goes up above level mark on conditioner dispenser it should continue to syphon all the softener through.
If it works ok like that, then check that water is getting to the section during final rinse, if not, top of water distributer could be blocked if water supply is particularly dirty.

    Thanks Seamy,

I will check the syphon as you suggest.

The conditioner sits there undiluted at the end of the cycle, which suggest to me that the water isn’t getting to the drawer. If that is the case, is there a solenoid valve that controls the water feed to the dispenser? and if so, where would it be located?

    many thanks for your help,

    regards,

Re not taking from drawer – had this problem( and build up of powder /=etc) and cured by doing a maintenance wash @60 with Dr becks – we have a problem in this area ( or is it a fudge by water authority ) of black algae forming at air/water boundary, causing problems .Drawer clean with Milton solution works .

    Hi.

Take out drawer. Towel on floor. Unravel paperclip. Turn timer to where conditioner rinse starts. Whilst it is filling, prod paperclip into both jets which are above conditioner compartment.

    Sorted!

have had a disconnected heater element connection cause failures to stop filling, however this is on the latter models. might be worth a check as there is only 5 screws to take out off the back panel 😛
