Zanussi 812 won’t rotate with full load

My Zanussi 812 drum will not rotate with a full load. It works fine with a part load. The belt is not slipping and pullies are firm on the spindles. Drum and motor bearings are all OK. I’ve removed the motor and it spins freely but it looks as if the motor has to be taken apart to get to the brushes. Not done that yet. Any suggestions please.

If your machine is an FL812 ?? Then the motor doesn’t have brushes (induction motor) and the problem is more likely the start capacitor.

Hi Martin, thanks for your reply. Yes, it is the FL812 with SOLE 20571.517 motor. If there are no brushes, I won’t take it apart to find them 😀 .

If a faulty start capacitor can give the impression of a ‘weak’ motor that could certainly be it. I’ll change it. Any suggestions on where I will find it? There is no obvious capacitor on the motor.

Remove the lid and it is attached under the metal cross member.

But I’m really struggling to find a new capacitor. So far nothing at ukwhitegoods or espares. Ebay is full of various ones but I don’t think match the one I want. Any suggestions?

What is it rated at? (I can’t recall but think it is 16uf?)

Hi Martin,

I think the capacitor I need is 12.5?F. I have managed to find and order one so and will try it when it arrives.

There is also a smaller capacitor with the following markings:

411.13.608
KTO,039 microF (X2) +
2 x 0.039 microF(4)+2,2,MOhms
250vAC HPF258521

I can’t find a replacement for this one so I’m hoping it’s the larger one.

The small one is a mains suppressor and to be ignored.
