ParticipantI haven’t got the back off this machine yet, but the drum makes an almighty grinding noise when its in the spin cycle.
With your help a few months ago, I was able to replace the belt, but this sounds like something different.
Going to take the back off and have a peep inside and see what I can see. Hopefully its something obvious like a belt.

Well, I’ve got the back off now and this is what I can tell so far.
The new belt I fitted last December is still in good condition.
When I move the drum with my hand I can feel the grind, and this is still there even when I remove the belt, which for me rules out a belt or motor problem.
My instinct tells me that its a ‘bearing’ problem, much like when the bearings go on a car wheel. Are you able to help and advise at all please ?
There’s a shop near me where they sell parts, indeed, where I bought my belt last year. I’ll see if they’re open and ask them what they think.
Thanks

From the front of the machine, see if there is any movement of the front lip of the drum relative to the inner lip of the door seal by trying to lift the drum. If there is, the bearings are going. If not, you may have a foreign body between the inner and outer drums.

Thanks,
Yup, there is movement as you described, so must be the bearings.
I couldn’t get any today, so will try tomorrow afternoon.
I read elsewhere about some ‘While you’re replacing this, you might as well replace this as well….’
Any suggestions on items that may fit this bill please ?
I’ve bought a Haynes manual which has given me a bit of an insight which will help I hope.

Motor brushes and pump motor are worth checking as they are effectively consummable items.
Can’t be much more specific without the model number.

Thanks Penguin
The model is an FLA 1201W if that helps.
Thanks again
