Have a Zanussi Aquacycle FLE1216W washing machine with intermittent problems. Hope someone can give me an idea what the issue might be.

For the last few months the machine has been a little tempremental. Every now and again it’ll refuse to start. Normally a quick on/off on the front panel resets everything and allows the machine to be used nornmally again.

Had a water leak due to a blocked fluff filter. Checked under the machine for any other issues, everything looked fine.

Once the machine had been placed upright filled the machine and selected a program. Pressed start. Nothing at all other than the door locking and remaining locked. After a few power cycles on power on the machine did even less. The door would lock and remian locked. No lights other than power and door. Unable to select a cycle. After a few button presses the machie would start to bleep and flash the start button light and that was about it. Was able to entre diag mode but without any manuals unable to do anything.

Unplugged, had the lid off and checked the door lock and control PCB. Door lock seemed fine. Control PCB wasn’t great. A couple of componenets looked a little ‘blackened’ but no broken tracks. Cleaned everything up and re-installed. Still nothing.

Gave up. Went back to the machine a couple of hours later and once again it worked prefectly first time.

Any ideas on the problem? Guess the control pcb may be at fault? Any way of getting the error codes fomr this machine.

The last one of these machines I went to with similar symptoms it turned out to be a lazy drain pump which was putting it into a fault mode and shutting everything down. Has it ever stopped with the machine full of water?

I do not believe it ever has.

Would the symptoms indicate it has entered a fault mode rather than the pcb being at fault?

Did you check for dry joints on the PCB ? When it’s not working properly you can try pressing pause then keep pressing skip until you have skipped all the different stages. There should then be a click as the door unlocks. If the door stays locked it could well be in a fault safety shutdown mode. You could also check that any PCB edge connectors are secure. You can use a very small screwdriver to bend out each contact slightly to grip the PCB tighter. Obviously you need the machine unplugged before trying things like that.
