ParticipantHi there all WG fans,
Help. I have a problem with my ageing Zanussi condenser tumble dryer model TC71P. I’ve been using it for about 5 years, and its been reasonably maintained – filters cleaned anyhow – never in damp etc.
It was a hand-me-down, but in very good nick working perfectly, and has been dead reliable until now.
I have found bugger all information about this model – not a sniff of a handbook or anything, but maybe its too old, or maybe I give up too easily these days.
Calling in an engineer is not an option right now, but I’ve got quite alot of DIY WM experience brushes on motors, simple PCB fixes, drum seals etc.It has stopped heating the air, although the fan and drum look to be working fine. The timer still functions – still moving correctly anyhow.
Drum reverses every few mins, as it should on this model.
I have no idea if there were any signs of trouble beforehand – she’s not saying.I’ve only had a chance for a quick look around inside last night, while cleaning out the fluff from crevices, but the wiring all looks sound, re-seated the push terminals and no corrosion anywhere.
The heater looks OK, though I didn’t have test kit with me at the time to check continuity I will have a go tonight.
I had hoped giving it a good clean might help, and that maybe the problem was as simple as an air intake being blocked, the heater then tripping a thermostat.Anyhow, I was after a bit of guidance about doing the continuity testing – I’m not Michael Faraday but know about safe working.
Mains looks fine, the drum and fan work. The heater element I can check easily, but what about the rest of the circuit – does anyone have experience of this model. The washing is piling up – its day three now- and it feels like I’m supposed to carry it around all day as penance 😥 .
Cheers,
Adrian

First off can you check the make, I think you’ll find it’s a Hotpoint 😉
If it is, it’s more than likely the thermostats near the heater need replacing but we will need the serial number to identify as there are two types.
Power off please when checking :zap:

Of course you’re right Dave ,
It was late when I was looking at it – had Zanussi on the brain for some reason (that’s because I was also pondering the WM, FJ1926, which is starting to leap about a bit on spin – another post for that one).
Power off
Serial No. is 48 100 187.

You’ll need these then:
http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … ucts_id=80If the washer’s rattling around, check the filter first – if it’s even partially choked it will make the machine shake on spin.

Cheers Penguin45,
Re the dryer
I’m ordering them tonight. Any handy hints on locating and removal of old/fitting new? Or is it just a straightforward solder job – I hope they don’t use that lead free solder.Re the WM
Filter is clear – is it possible the “shocks” need replacing and maybe the springs? Thanks again,
Adrian

Just to let you know, I ordered the parts Sunday night, they were dispatched Tuesday morning, I got them Wednesday and fitted Wednesday night.
The parts order process worked a treat – I’ve seen a few – order acknowledgement, dispatch notice, and this transaction was trouble free.
The dryer is working nicely, and that’s one less source of domestic aggravation.
Thanks to both Dave and Penguin.February 9, 2006 at 5:46 pm #163074brightspark

That should have said “ordered Sunday, dispatched Monday, arrived and fitted Tuesday”.

Adrian

ParticipantHi,are the thermostats still available for the TC71P ?
Also which one goes where as the last set my dad fitted didn’t have a paint spot on any of them so I’m now unsure which one is which. BtW the original ones way back one had a red spot.

Moderatorstats seem to be available
https://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/index/?p=2&q=tc71p
but you need ask the shop which set is correct
if you look at the stats, often one has a small hole in vthe middle of the terminals. this hole allows you to reset the stat as this one is the safety stat and has a higher temp rating.
