Participant[h=2]I recently bought Zanussi gas cooker, ZCG43250WA. The top cavity light only comes on when grilling, but not when used as an oven. I think this must be a fault but Zanussi say it is designed to work this way for energy efficiency reasons!! I think I am being fobbed off, but can anyone out there confirm if the top light should work when the top oven is on? The bottom oven lights up when in use as expected.[/h] Thanks in anticipation.

KeymasterI can’t find any info on it but, it’d not surprise me if they did that and it’d be a conscious choice to make it work that way.

Moderatorhave you got the pnc number as there are 10 different ovens with the same model
As K said it would not suprise but it does seem strange to make the light in the top oven work differently from the lower one

ParticipantHi Dave, I have checked the Prod. No. and there are 2 more digits separate from the sequence I gave before. The extra numbers are 09. Hope this helps, and look forward to hearing if this helps you answer my question. Regards, Mike

Moderatorok makes sense now in a way
assume top oven is gas but grill in top oven is electric
so they strap the light onto the grill element so thats ok
if they wanted to make the light work on the oven there would have to be a complicated switch just for the lamp.
if the top oven was electric and not gas it would be easy

ParticipantThanks Dave for your thoughts. So it sounds like the top light only works with the electric grill and not the gas oven by design, rather than being a fault. Pretty poor in my opinion, and sounds like a cost saving decision by Zanussi designers rather than the “energy efficiency” reason they gave me. Not a great example of the “appliance of science”, but looks like I am stuck with it. Thanks again for looking into this for me. Regards, Mike
