ParticipantIts amazing how family will suddenly experience problems with their appliances when they find out that I have suddenly become an ‘expert’ after fixing my own problem using this forum 😯 .
My son has now decided to dust down an old (about 10 yrs old) dishwasher he had collecting dust in his shed. He assured me that the only problem with it was that the water remained cold irrespective of program settings.
So I whipped off all panels, run a cycle and measured 240v at the heater terminals during ‘wash’. Removed the inline heater element and measured 25ohms across the terminals. I always assumed that heaters went open circuit if defective. Is this correct?
The heater is marked AC230v 2100w 791R. What does this last figure represent? Should I be reading 791ohms?

When load of element is on for a while any bad connections like dry joints on p.c.b, loose connections could be causing the problem. 25 ohms sounds right though for a resistance reading, If its the through flow heater, there are thermal cut-outs in line with the supply, these are mounted on the actual element.

Seamy – When I monitored the 240v at the heater, I was measuring at the element ends. Are you suggesting that I should monitor the 240v at the heater terminals to check whether it remains constant? I can’t see any obvious ‘cut out’ arrangements between the terminals and the element ends.

Just recently cracked on with the problem by re-checking all connections. Visual inspection of PCB could not identify any obvious dry joints but ‘touch soldered’ some connections just in case!
Tested on completion, and hey presto the heater worked ok during a full cycle. Replaced all panels and tested again…………….no heater. I give up.
