ParticipantNo matter what programme i select the machine starts and then is either sticking on the pre rinse or wash programme. It continually washes. You can hear it occasionally pause as if its going to change then carries on washing/rinseing. This has been over 3 hrs? I’m a tech myself so can fix it with the proper advice as to what the fault could be if possible. I have checked all basics so far that water is coming in. Its definatley pumping out and no kinks in pipe etc. When the machine is contiunally running and i open it to stop it does leave water all in where the filter it. But as i said it does pump out and i can remove this by starting a programme for 10 seconds and stopping then doing that a couple of times as it always pumps out on start up. Thats the only way i can clear the water out!
The machine is uk and we now live in Australia and has worked here fine for months. The only thing i would mention is that the salt light is on as there is no salt in there. For some reason you don’t get dishwasher salt here in australia. must be the water or something.
Any help appreciated

Does it heat? Programme stops to heat – if it never gets to temperature, the programme won’t complete.

Thanks for your response penguine45.I will run a programme again. but i dont think it does as the water is always cold at the bottom and the door doesn’t get warm like it would usually if it was heating. So i take it that when it does a cold rinse and then a hot because its not heating it wont and will keep doing the cold rinse! is that correct. I take it there is an elemet then somewhere. Any ideas on where so i can have a look and check it.

Um, close, not quite………
A typical programme comprises cold pre-wash, hot wash, cold rinse, hot rinse leading to drying by residual heat. If there is no heat at those specific steps, the programme will hang, waiting……. So, it should complete the pre-wash at least and advance to the heat sequence. If it does, check for continuity through the heater, burnt out wiring at the heater and burnt out contacts on the pcb itself (The heater is switched by a relay).
However……..
If the programme is hanging in the prewash stage, the problem lies with the IWMS system. This is the water matrix under the l/h side panel. It will slowly choke and ultimately become blocked with congealed food deposits which will prevent the water level switch from operating. The fill will cut out on the pneumatic shut-off to the fill valve, whilst remaining electrically active. In theory, the machine will wash, but the programme will not advance, as it thinks it isn’t full. Bit of bumf HERE may help.

I have retested and run the top programme 70 which is a HOT prewash, main wash upto 70c, 1 cold rinse, 1 hot rins and active dry. As said before the system doesn’t actually hang! It just continues to wash or rinse not sure how i would actually know which one was which. Anyway having said that when i ran the 70c for 10 mins i opened the door and the water was stone cold. Should be hot as it should be doinga HOT prewash or moved onto the main wash which would be hot.
I will test the heater and the tubes etc. Thanks for the information and help.

I have moved the machine to the laundry so i can work on it better.
I have checked the Heating element and it has 24 ohms across the terminals signifying i think that its not open circuit and should be good! I have removed the covers on the inside of the machine where the water comes in and out and cleaned.
I have run a 65 wash and have sat by the machine to check. It clearly has run a cold rinse first then extracted the water and the the wash programme. I have opened the door and the water was hot!
Not sure if just moving it has fixed it or what? But saying that i think it was doing this before because when it was stuck once i tried a differrernt programme and it apperared to work. Anyway i will run a few programmes to check.
In the meantime any ideas? As it wasn’t heating the water before and seemed to be stuck on the rinse programme. So if its not the heating element what else could it be?

Interesting. It may well be a water level issue – the water level is controlled by the displacement of air into a diaphragm switch (pressure switch) via an air chamber in the Internal Water Management System (IWMS). This is the amazing moulding under the left hand side panel. It also contains a secondary safety system. If the matrix becomes clogged up with muck and goo, the water level chamber may not function, and the air is diverted to a secondary chamber, which forces air to the pneumatic shut-off device attached to the inlet valve. The circulation motor may well run, but the heater will not be activated. It is only activated by the pressure switch switching.
Moving the machine may just have disturbed things enough to allow the pressure switch system to work. Hoik the side panel off and have a look. If the lower part of the chamber looks gooey, that will be your problem.

Thanks penguin45 for your reply.
I initialy tipped the machine onto its side and investigated from the bottom. This matrix chamber apperas to look clean. Can this be removed and opeend for cleaning just in case?
Also are you saying that the pressure switch is located in the side panel? Any ideas what it looks like!
Thanks

Pressure switch is the round object at the front – lower front cover plate off to view. It will have a small clear plastic hose running to it.
No, the IWMS cannot be opened up for cleaning. Article HERE.

Can’t believe i posted back in August and still haven’t fixed this machine properly… Anyway here is an update.
Have moved machine onto blocks so i can get under it when its working. Problem still is that it doesn’t always heat the water and programme runs endersley.
Heater shows 24ohms across coil signifying its okay. I have strapped a multimeter to the coil to watch the voltage. I’m running a 70c programme whic starts with a hot pre wash so i know that in the first few minutes the water should be hot. On the first 5 times of running 70c my multimeter goes to 220v a.c signifying applied voltage to heater. When i feel the front door i can feel its warm. On opening the door in cycle i can see that its warm inside and the water is hot. So working okay. I have ended the cycle and restarted all good so far……
Now on the sixth time the water isn’t getting hot and my meter doesn’t read any voltage on the coil….
Do i think the heater as i though before is all good and something else is causing the problem. As said before the metrix chamber thing all looks clean to me and pipes etc. If anything there is the occasional black smudge in the pipes but you can see that this is just a smear on the pipe nothing that would cause a blockage.
Any ideas. Previoulsy a pressure switch was mentioned but im not sure what ti looks like and where i can find it!
Any help please gratefully appreciated.
UPDATE:
think i found the pressure switch item # 911888011/01
it has a short across it. have removed the connectors from it and the machine starts initally then stops with the programme light flashing. thus assume it should have a short on it. Reconnected and machine working again but not doing the obvious heating still. -
