ParticipantHaving spent many hours fixing my DE6744 Aquapulse I thought I should post what I hope is helpful info for others as this site was the only useful source for me.
I should say I’m a mechanical engineer so I tend to try & fix most things before reaching for the yellow pages. My payback for posting all of this (hopefully helpful) info is that as I don’t have a manual (the MC was inherited) I want to know how to get the MC to reset to the beginning of the program as when it stops I have to let it run right thro’ to the end of the cycle. If anyone can tell me how to do it (I guess it’s some sort of special start up procedure) it would be much appreciated.
1. Door Interlock.
The MC would start and continue for about 2 mins and then stop. While it was running you could hear the noise of the water being moved etc but after it had stopped nothing would get it to restart – after several minutes the green LEDs (the respective program one & the “wash” one) would start & continue to flash (2 x per sec approx ) and if you switched the MC off you could repeat this cycle all over again.
If I opened the door in the few mins that it ran the water continued being pumped up thro’ the MC – as opening the door didn’t disable the MC I hoped it would be the door interlock. Sure enough a meter check showed it was not making & breaking during close & open.
The cause was the mechanism that operates the microswitch – the switch button was not being pushed as far as needed – I built up the bit of the mechanism which contacted the button with araldite and filed it back to the correct shape (but now bigger).
Problem No.1 solved !2. IWMS – Cleaning
Having read about the IWMS on this site and being amazed at the complexity of the thing whilst stripping the MC down to fix the door I took a closer look.
It was indeed all gungy and black inside at the bottom but after stripping it out (don’t forget to unscrew the plastic vent on the LH inside of the MC) I was able to get the thing completely clean by filling the lower part with thin bleach and leaving for a several ours (agitate occasionally) then flush and repeat (leave overnight if required) and eventually it looked like new. When playing with IWMS watch out for:-
a. Pair of solenoids fitted to IWMS – don’t need to be removed to clean as above but if you do they need to be rotated then removed – not as I did – prised out – which broke the flange (fortunately I fixed this with loctite and hard plastic activator and a zip tie).
b. The main blue feed pipe at the back of the IWMS sprang a leak – the spring clip had either lost it’s spring or the pipe had compressed – I modified the plastic around the area (read drilled & hacked away !) to allow a proper jubilee clip to be fitted and Bob’s yer uncle.
The MC stopped again recently (approx 9 months after the first clean) and I cleaned the now gungy IWMS and the two main pipes that run from front to back (small blue plastic one and larger white moulded plastic one) and all was fine again. I’m just amazed at how quickly it can block up – given we are pretty careful about rinsing off the worst before putting in the MC.
3. Live wire brokenA month or so after the first time I cleaned the IWMS the MC stopped Dead – I posted on this site and Penguin 45 (thank you) – suggested checking the terminal block at the back where the mains comes in. I guess it can’t be that uncommon – the live wire had corroded badly & broken away from the connector – I stripped the wire back, fitted a new spade connector and we were away again.
