Zanussi does not fill

We have a Zanussi dishwasher PN 911841017/01, Model 8814X vintage mid-late 2002 built-in model. It came with our rented home in Germany and occasionally does not fill at the beginning of the wash cycle. Have perused the forums here without finding a precise problem/solution. So far, the fix is to turn off (without disconnecting the electrical mains) the dishwasher, shut off the water supply to the inlet hose below the sink, briefly loosen (but not disconnect) and re-tighten the dishwasher inlet hose, and turn the water back on again. Some sort of pressure/vacuum problem? Any ideas?
