ParticipantI have a Zanussi Drier model TDS383W. I need to replace the felt gasket on the drum as has become worn. However, does anyone know of an easy way to do this? There seem to be several screws located inside what looks like a tube on the back of the machine which I cannot get access to with a spanner.
I cannot see a way to move the drum back far enough to put the replacement gasket on. Can anyone help or suggest what to do (other than employ a local repairman!)
Thanks,

There is no ‘easy’ way! This is the problem with DIY rather than paying the local expert to do the job.
I can’t give you a ‘blow by blow’ account for safety reasons, so I’ll just say… unplug the machine before you do anything, and then take the top panel and both sides off.
If it doesn’t become obvious from there, call in an expert.

ParticipantThanks – is there a special tool to undo those screws located inside those ‘tubes’ – effectively like a radiator key?

I think your barking up the wrong tree with the tube thing. 😕
The only different screws on that dryer, are the 7mm bolt-type screws, that are everywhere.
Remember to unplug it first

ParticipantLOL – obviously I will unplug it!
I have undone all the 7mm bolt screws, but there seem to be a couple of these which I cant get the spanner to, which seem to hold the back on.
Can I just take the front off or do I have to work from the back?

Access from the back to loosen the rear panel sufficient to remove the drum…

You need to get those two screws out and a spanner wont be much good, you need a very narrow 7mm socket.

Thanks – I have two socket sets, but both are just 1mm too wide to fit inside to get to the screw. Does anyone know where you can get a narrow(er) socket?

You’ll have to find a tool shop.
Ask for a ‘7mm nut-spinner’.
You are very determined to do this yourself, right?

With the greatest respect, if you don’t have the basic tools or indeed know where to get them, I venture to suggest at this point you should get an expert in to fix it for you. It will save you all the hastle and you could have your dryer up and running by this time tomorrow 😉

ParticipantI thought the purpose of this forum was to share problems/solutions. I actually want to be able to make relatively simple repairs. It might be a hassle but I’d rather learn something which I can then do again than have to rely solely on other people.

Indeed so sir, in fact we have done just that so far 🙂

This problem is not in any way classed as such and my advice stands.

This is not a learning forum/site. We give advice and help to all that post but one cannot assume ones individual abilities or capabilities to effect a repair safely and correctly. It is unwise and irresponsible of anyone in my position to offer continued advice to anyone that may be considered as needing professional assistance. I urge you to follow my advice 😉
