Zanussi DW 907 control knob stiff and sticks in rinse

Zanussi DW 907 (ancient)

-the control knob has intermittently become stiff to turn.
-the cycle stops midway through the rinse.

Turning the knob on a notch then sees the machine complete the cycle.

Any ideas?

Re: previous unanswered post, it actually sticks in the drying phase, not the rinse.

Could this be a fault in the temperature sensor as mentioned in the related post for a different machine?

Perhaps, the control is waiting for a certain high temperature to be reached before moving on to the next notch. If the sensor is not operating, might it then get stuck in the loop waiting for the high it’s never going to get?
