Zanussi DW-907 – No water problem and burning smell

I have a Zanussi DW-907 that fails to fill with water. Although it doesn’t happen every time the problem is becoming more frequent. There’s also a burning smell from the element during the drying cycle which I suspect is probably due to the lack of water. Sounds to me like the inlet valve may be sticking or possibly the float switch. I can find the IV but not sure where the float switch is located.

Any other possible causes…?
