KeymasterI have checked the arm on the top basket and it is clear of blockages, but not spinning even though water comes out of it. Manually the arm spins very freely indeed.
Could it be there is not enough pressure from the water coming from the connector on the back wall?
Could it be a pump problem or a blockage?
Thanks
Phil

It could be any of those really, although a blockage is unlikely as neither spray arm would be rotating.
When you say water is coming out of the upper arm, at what sort of pressure ? I know it’s hard to tell as the door is closed.
Please be carefull if you’re opening the door quickly during a cycle, the water can get very hot.

The washer shuts off immediately I open the door as you know, but I can say that the top arm hasn’t moved and at the moment of opening, water seems to be shooting about 3-4 inches up in a stream from the hole near the end of the arm.

It sounds like the water presure is OK then, which is good 😀
I would be tempted to check the spray arm itself, or is there anything obstructing it ? i.e. a dishwasher freshener thing hanging on the top basket ?

Dave, thanks for the quick replies.
I am going to get the arm off again tomorrow and see what I can see. The water coming out of the arm doesn’t seem powerful enough to turn it from what I’ve seen upon immediately opening the door. Could the pump be failing, but not completely?
After that I don’t know what to do.I have checked that the spray arm makes a good connection to the back connector and it appears to do so. It is positioned correctly on the basket. There is nothing restricting its movement.
I have to do something as the words coming from the wife are turning from requests to threats !! 🙁

ParticipantAre the end jets clear? This is what applies the rotational force to the rotor. Being the furthest point out it is also where the crud collects.
Failing that, yes, these motors can run slow due to partial failure of the plastic drive shaft. Unlikely if you’re getting 3″ jets from the rest of the rotor.

If all the jets are clear, reasonable amout of spray comming out and no obstructions found I suggest you contact your local “Service Force” centre and ask if the top arm can be swapped to a plastic one.
The one on yours is probably metal, plastic one is better as it is lighter and spins more freely.
Cost ?

Okay, cannot find a blockage and the water comes out of the end jets too. Anyone here able to supply me with one over the phone?
Thanks

Yeah I can, or as mentioned a local Service Force agent could also supply for you.
If you let me know the product number code from the rating plate, I’ll get more info for you.

There’s no plate anywhere I can see unless its on the bottom.
There are however two barcode stickers on the back and a sticker with some numbers on the side of the door. In case these are what you want – here are the details:Model: Zanussi DWS 949
Prod No: 911884001
Ser No: 91640080
Type: 911 N81.2FJust give me a number to call and I do so straight away.
Sorry for the delay in answering but I am disabled an I had to wait for someone to come in and move it to look behind. As it was, I didn’t need to!! 😀
Thanks

Hi, that’s the info I need 😀
Parts are reasonable enough for this model, details are:
Upper spray arm £9.82
Upper spray arm support £6.47
Postage £3.50All inc VAT.
That should sort the problem out as long as the water pressure is OK.
Phone number is 01392 467889, ask for me.
Regards.
