ParticipantWe have the above dishwasher – just out of warranty! It has developed the habit of keeping the tablet inside the container. If I sneak up on it and open the door – the tablet will fall out into the hot water but otherwise it stays stuck and the the dishes stay dirty! Any ideas?

This may seem patently obvious I’m sure you will agree, but I wouldn’t mind betting the Dispenser unit will need replacing?

Reading the post again, the flap is opening, but not sufficiently to allow the tablet to drop clear.
Check that the top basket is pushing fully home, especially with regard to the top rotor arm feed, which must dock fully at the back. Also, that one of those nice dangly lemon smelly things isn’t lined up with dispenser flap (a surprisingly common problem!). Check also that the rotor tips are not choked, as the tip jet is usually designed to sweep across the dispenser, dissolving tablets or washing out powder.
Or, just go back to powder. It gets to work immediately, whereas the tablets take time to dissolve, reducing their effectiveness.

Many thanks to you both for your thoughts!
The flap does open – but on these occasions when I have snuck up on it – you can hear it opening as I pull down the door – I don’t think it’s coincidence! Sometimes it works OK, other times, dirty plates. There seems no real pattern. We have wondered whether it catches on the plates- this machine does not like big plates, or cutlery that sticks up out of the basket and you have to be very careful about this. When we have been careful that the top rotor arm can revolve we have occasionally found that the bottom one is catching on the bottom of the plates that are protruding slightly (because of the curve) through the bottom bars.We no longer put in the 10 inch plates.
What causes the dispenser to open – is it the heat of the water or a time thing?
I wish I could see inside to see where it has got to in the cycle!
If I open the door does it start the whole thing again??
If I use the quick wash does it do it without a rinse so I could throw the tablet on the bottom of the door like I used to do with the first one we owned? Thanks again.

ParticipantIf you press the release button for the flap does it spring up smartly? If not, it sure sounds like time for a new dispenser…

Have you tried moving the top basket to the “closer to the roof setting”. Then see what dispenser does.

The flap opens onto the top basket, as it’s meant to. By opening the door you hear the flap fully opening back onto the dispenser.
If the tablet isn’t being washed out then water isn’t reaching it.
As Penguin already stated, check the spray arms for blockages, especially at the ends.
If these are clear and there are no obstructions stopping the arms rotating I’d guess that there’s a problem with the wash pump.DP
