I have a 10 year old Zanussi FJ1033. Spin has been very loud for many months, but now sounds like the machine is full of bricks! I assume the drum bearings have gone, but haven’t yet taken it apart (how to get the case off?)

Q: is it going to be worth fixing, given it’s age, and how much is it likely to cost a) d-i-y or b) callout an engineer? If it’s over £100 my feeling is I’d be better getting a new machine..

    Hi,
If you are doing the work yourself you will be able complete it for under £100. Bearing in mind what you said – “Loud for many months”, – you will need the following components to make the repair – bearing and seal set, tub centre seal, and drum support.

If you have the work done professionally, most engineers will charge for 2 hours work – it is a TOTAL demolition job! Establish hourly rate 1st.

If you put up your postcode, a UKW engineer in your area may be able advise frurther.

    Regards,
    Penguin45.
