KeymasterHi,
I checked the posts and found one that describes my problem: water backs up through the powder dispenser a minute or two after filling and the drum starts to rotate. Sounds like the water level system has a block. The rubber boot between the drum and the dispenser is clear and intact. Question: just how much of an “expert” job is this to fix? Your Repairs@ link does not show a contact in my area (London W5)
Possibly due to the drum banging around? I’ve just replaced both lower suspension struts to fix this. Thanks for your advice in advance.

The drum banging around could be that it’s spinning when it should be tumbling at normal “wash speed” thus throwing the water back up the dispenser hose.
Does this sound likely ?
Dave.

Dave,
Thanks for your reply.
Now you mention it, it certainly could be spinning instead of tumbling as you suggest. Now that I’ve replaced the telescopic struts, what can I do about the drum speed? Is this a controller issue, perhaps?
David.

Check the tacho magnet on the end of the motor, they fall off/come unscrewed 😉
Power off 1st please :plug:

Dave,
I checked the end of the motor; nothing seems loose or missing. I checked the resistance across the of the tacho magnet leads and on my multimeter at 2000 ohms, the reading was 492.
Any comments?
Thanks,
David.

David, the coil reading is acceptable; Dave’s concern would be the magnet in the middle being secure on the shaft. Also, check the motor for earth leakage – armature leaking to earth can over-ride the speed control circuitry and cause the motor to try and spin. If all OK, you’ll be looking at some sort of problem with the electronics.
Power off, of course…………..

Thanks Penguin45,
How do I check the security of the magnet? Is this beneath the coil, on the end of the drive shaft?
To check for armature earth leakage, do I check the reistance between each commutator segment and earth?
Thanks for your advice so far.
David.

Remove the retaining spring clip holding the tacho coil in place. The magnet is screwed into the end of the motor shaft, and being plastic often the threads getting stripped

Martin,
BINGO! As you predicted, the nylon thread on the tacho magnet has indeed been completely stripped. I TOLD my wife we wouldn’t have to get a whole new machine! (That’s the Scot in me)
I’ll certainly let you know if the machine fails to recover 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}.
Once again, you guys, thanks for your help.
Cheers,
David.
