ModeratorOriginal complaint was poor/no spin, timer advancing quickly to OFF position. The last load was still in the machine and consisted of a large heavy pair of trousers and several small items, a possible candidate for OOB. I set the machine on spin only. Door locked, pump ran but there was no motor action and after a few seconds the timer clicked off.
Removed the motor brushes, well down but appeared to be making good contact, flicked the brushes to make sure they where not sticking in the holders and refitted. Set on rinse & spin, machine filled, tumbled, drained and spun perfectly.
I have fitted a new set of brushes and once again it ran perfectly on test.
My question really is, does this machine advance rapidly if there is a fault such as no motor action due to brushes or other faults?

As funkyboogy says, the motor tacho magnet is often an offender in these cases. You can get the same symptoms also if the relay joint on the module is arcing (so always take a scan at the module is best).
And finally, crud in the manifold can hold the safety level pressure switch closed giving the same symptoms 😉

Had a few loose tacho’s, checked this one, it was fine. If the tacho is loose you usually see some motor action, even if it is out of control. I did suspect pressure switch problems but it filled, rinsed and did the final spin perfectly twice, after I had attended to the brushes.
will report back if I get a recall. 🙂

I suspect you can get a break in the tacho coil windings but the broken ends touch most of the time. Now & then the contact breaks down and the machine briefly tries to go to full spin until the electronics decides there is a fault. In the case of the fully computerised models this can make it reset to the beginning of the programme.
