Got one of these that wont do the spin cycle
Is it likely to be the brushes, or the speed module …
Can’t find brushes anywhere.. But found module at over £100!

does it have an induction or commutator motor?
do you have any drum rotation at all ?
does it distribute just not ramp up ?

Has the commutatir motor, distributes fine, just no high speed spin

Common fault on the old machines with hybrid timers, if that’s what it is. EMW time.

They are not shown on any exploded pictures, but anyone in the trade would recognise which ones as soon as they see the old ones.

Ok thanks for all answers, I’ll take brushes out first and match them up…

Well, finally changed the brushes, which weren’t that bad, but decided to try them anyway

Still same fault … Timer next I spose….

Check with EMW. http://www.emwelec.co.uk. They will send a re-con timer which you can return if it doesn’t do the trick. I think that one has a separate module which they will also probably stock, so ask them which it’s likely to be!

Is this timer easy to fit.. Looks like a load of cogs in front of the timer shaft!

    Thanks

Piece of cake. The cog(s) are keyed – only one way they can go.

    Re: Zanussi FL-1084

I had one like that it turned out to be blocked air chamber on the manifold, as the motor control goes through the pressure switch, cleared the pressure hose and the machine would then go into full spin

I’ll give that a try as well

    Re: Zanussi FL-1084

BTW, After checking the pressure switch (only need disconnect the p/hose to check that) if you haven’t looked at the module yet, you should go there next. You might find a dodgy, partly burnt solder joint on a relay terminal or just possibly a swollen or leaking capacitor.

How do you get the speed module out of its holder … It’s seems stuck solid!

Just simply unclips and slides out as a rule, unless some miscreant has had it out before and forced it in without sliding it down in the holder channels that is. Either way it should come out without too much force required.

By the way, have you got around to checking the air bell and made sure the pressure hose ain’t bunged up?
