    Hi all,

The forum helped me fix the fridge – next day the w/m broke down. I’ve read a lot of posts on this subject.

It’s old – 1992 manufacture and all original parts – they don’t make them like they used to!

    Symptoms:
Most of the time the clothes were coming out sodden (no spin), the empty pump just goes and goes.
Sometimes if the machine is empty it will do a spin, sometimes when it’s full.
Occasionally it will do a spin but not complete
When it’s supposed to be spinning, if I rock the machine it does a ‘kick’ of the motor just once and almost instantly stops spinning and won’t do it again.

I don’t think that the machine has a balance sensor – there’s no mention in the manual of one. When it’s not broken, it doesn’t rotate the drum before actually spinning it just spins up. (its 1000 max spin)

I have blown out the pipe from the pressure switch to the pressure vessel by the empty pump. I have taken out the pressure vessel and cleaned it thoroughly (it was a bit sludgy) and I have checked that the empty hose is clean (from drum to pump). Checked all electrical connections. I have checked the door interlock pressure switch pipe as well.

It’s behaving like it doesn’t know the drum is empty. I’m not sure if it tells through use of the pressure switch – I can see two things that look like sensors on the bottom of the drum. I have posted a pic here:

do these sense when it’s empty?

Any help really gratefully recieved – we have a new baby so SWMBO is NOT happy and though I know it’s old, it has been brilliant and working for the NHS getting a new one will be a strain on finances

    Thanks in advance

    Nick

    Those are temperature sensors. 😉

Have you checked the motor brushes?

    Wow, Iadon,

That was fast thanks for the reply.

I took them off and cleaned them and worked out what they were.

I had a look at the brushes. They look OK, the rinks look fine too.

A bit of misinformation on my loast post:
I have to go to work in 10 minutes so was putting it back together for the wife to use. 1st attempt it did do a spin

What was wrong above is that it does rotate the drum a few times before it spins.

When it wasn’t working and I rocked the machine it tried to instantly spin not rotate before instantly stopping again.

Because it’s been on its side and all water out of the pressure vessel – is that why it spun this time (i just did a spin not a wash)???

My gut feeling is that it’s still that it doesn’t know it’s empty as the pump keeps running.

Is it worth trying the brushes?

Depending on which side you laid it you may have damaged the pressure switch. If you laid it on its right hand side looking from the front then water may have run up into the switch.

If the brushes are the original ones then my guess is that they are long overdue for changing.

    Hi Iadom,

Thanks again, I laid it on the left side having checked where the switch was. I will try blowing/sucking gently on the pressure switch with a second tube and a syringe and see if I can get the machine to spin.

Will order some brushes anyway – I have to go away for a week – leaving the wife without a washing machine 🙁

Will let you know what I fond next week.
    Thanks again for your help

Replaced the brushes, they had worn down to nothing – works perfectly now

Thanks for your help and advice.
