Zanussi FLA1101W Aquacycle Staining the laundry!!

My sister was given a Zanussi FLA1101W Washing machine about 3 years ago, after her hotpoint wm53 decided that it wanted the drum to freeze solid!

The zannusi has been a really good machine, providing decent wash, rinse and spin results provided its not loaded too full. However after doing a few loads in it over the weekend have noticed small round brownish spots appearing on the laundry.

Happened on the white tea towels after laundering them on the 95c wash, and on the light coloureds on the 50c synthetics cycle and on some dark laundry washed on the 30c worn once programme…
All washed in fairy non-bio liquid, no softener used, and nothing in the door seal to cause staining.

My mum reckoned it could be the bearings going, however there is no definite noise as such when washing or spinning, and as zanussi drums have a bit of back and forth give its hard to tell if there is play when pushing the drum up with the hand.

Any ideas on this one…. Sorry about the novel too!!!

Thanks for the advice… I will give it a go.

However Ive shone a torch in the drum and looked under the holes, cant see a thing. Would it be worthwhile looking into opening the tub to see if theres anything there, or does this have a sealed tub?

It is possible that whatever has caused the problem has washed through or, it will. Unless you can see it splitting the tub seems a bit excessive, I’d do a couple of maintenance washes and see if it clears it first of all and then consider something more drastic.

I don’t know if that one has a sealed tub or not.

Thanks… Have run it through a few boilwashes and all seems fine up to now.

No staining on consecutive washes. However now ive cleaned the pump filter etc…. The spin performance seems to somewhat lack its lustre if thats the right word?

The washing seems to be far wetter from the 1100 spin than it ever used to.
However its making all the usual noises, and i think its getting upto the 1100 stage. It has no problem with tumbling speed.

Could this be the brushes going? Its also getting a bit whiny now. It always was very quiet, especially comapred to the zanussis of nowadays!
