    Hi,

The missus has overloaded our washing machine (I keep telling her she does…. I do my fair share of washes before anyone says anything 😆 ) and this time it has broken it.

My terminology might be wrong, so I’ll try and describe the issue.

What I think is the inner drum (the shiny silver perforated bit you actually put the wash in) seems to have become disconnected, and is free to wobble about. The end result is that the machine doesn’t spin with any load in. If I turn the pulley at the back with the drum empty it does spin a bit, but it seems loose.

So I think that either the drum has come off the spider (which seems unlikely as I imagine it’s on with some serious bolts, or some sort of bearing has gone.

I have disconnected the power and water, and have got the back off the unit, but I’m just after a bit of advice on how best to take the next step and get the whole drum unit out (if needs be) to find out which part is broken and get the replacement part for the repair.

I’m happy enough messing about with this, so any advice is appreciated.

    Cheers.

like u say, best thing is to get it apart and look

take off the motor, all hoses, and the door seal must be unhooked at the front!

theres white pins at the top of the legs which will pull out if you push in the locking tab

be wary though , these are heavy drums, so take the weight off from the back

then you can lift the drum out with the springs at the top

some people put something under the drum to help support the weight

take your time and be methodical, make note of all the wiring,,etc and youll be ok

the tub then splits by undoing all the bolts around the middle

    hope that helps!

Thanks for the super quick reply! 🙂 I’ve taken a look at the seal and can’t quite work out how that comes off. Any tips?

pull the white plastic clip off around the seal, its should then unhook

phew….that was a struggle. I couldn’t get the front off (because it seems to be the only thing providing structural rigidity) to get the front weight off, and with no one else around I had a right hassle getting the drum lifted out.

Got it done though, and the spider has just been completely snapped from it’s shaft!

So, now on the hunt for the best price for one of those that I have a chance of getting delivered on friday.

There was also this bit of metal down by the heating element, it seems to have a bit of white paint on it, and I can’t tell if it is snapped from somewhere or not. Any ideas? It kind of looks like part of some sort of circlip

    cheers

Just to add, the damage to the drum support is as a result of doing low temperature washes, together with liquid or ‘gel’ type detergents.

Use a decent powder or tablet, do at least one 60° wash every week or do a maintenance wash every month or so to prevent this happening.

thank you for that tip. We do use liquid, and we do a lot of low temp washes so you are spot on! and I don’t think I have ever done a wash at 60, let alone done a maintenance wash! It lasted 10 years though, so now I’m taking your advice maybe I’ll get another 20 🙂
