This morning my Zanussi Freezone Fridge Freezer was making a looud clicking noise, similar to water dripping on plastic. I turned the machine off and turned it back on again and it seemed to working okay, but now it has stopped. I have waited a while to hear it come on, but it hasn’t, there is a deathly silence to it!
Could it be that it needs re-gassing? Or worse?

I think the noise you heard was either fan catching on ice or defrosting, it has a clockwork timer that tends to stick at defrost you can manually click it on to see if that is the fault. Part No DST50213960003.
Then there is defrost T Stats none of this is simple and would need an experience eng to sort.
Parts availabe from Dave Conway. Remember switch of at mains before doing any work on appliance.
