ParticipantOur Zanussi Excel Jetstream 1250 Model No. FJS 1397W Serial No.010 00188 lives in the garage and froze up in the recent cold weather cracking the cold water inlet valve. To be on the safe side I replaced both valves with new ones from UKW and machine now operational again. However my wife belives that the water levels are no longer as high as before.
Can anyone advise me how high up the door the water level should be: 1. when doing a full load on programme “D” (40C) and,
2. when carrying out a maintenance (empty drum) wash on programme “B” (95C)?If after testing the water levels are found to be too low what can it be other than a faulty pressure sensor or load sensor and how do I test the sensors?
Any help appreciated as my D.I.Y reputation is on the line.

On wash you’d hardly think there was any water in it! On rinse it fills to a higher level (approx 5 litres more- varies according to loading).
But anyway, does it do the washing OK? If the answer is yes then leave it well alone and rest easy my friend. Your priority has to be that in the future you ensure your garage doesn’t get cold. Hot washing machine in cold garage = big build-up of condensation on the electrics. Damp electrics = all sorts of problems. Not to mention frozen pipes and spontaneous water bursts in all the wrong places.

ParticipantThanks Martin my reputation is intact. Had I taken the trouble to read the manual all those years ago when we got it I would have drained it when the weather turned nasty. Will not make that mistake again!
I put it in the garage as the wife was always complaining that she did not get out much.January 15, 2011 at 11:20 am #341094odom

That’s your problem. Best to move the washing machine to the kitchen, to keep the wife where she belongs. 😉

ParticipantHi Quickwash
Glad you liked the posts.
Garage had got so cold that when weather warmed up I noticed condensation had formed on the OUTSIDE of the door and widows!
So over the weekend I decided to take Martin and Odems advice but with an improvment – I installed the washing machine in the kitchen and the wife in the garage. After all, the washing machine is only 10 years old and the wife nigh on 60. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist or a washing machine engineer to figure out which one is going to be first to leave puddles of warm water on the kitchen floor!
Ah bliss, life don’t get better than this.
