Last night our washer/dryer nearly went into orbit just before the end of the wash cycle during spin due to a badly balance/overloaded drum.

Today my wife called to say that on the drying cycle she smelt ‘electrical burning’ and the dryer wasn’t drying.

Would I be correct to assume that the violence last night has somehow caused the element to fail? If so is it easy to access and replace?

Dryer fan belt may have been thrown off. Under the top cover, power off first…

Have checked and belt is still on but very perished. Still seems to turen the fan spindle though, I suspect on power it wouldn’t have a very good grip! Is the element likely to be damaged if the fan hasn’t been blowing cold air over it?

Thermal cutouts should’ve protected it, I’d hope.

Thanks for your help so far, if the thermal cutouts have cut out, how are they reset?

Sorry to keep asking questions just trying to get thoughts together before I tackle the beast!

Sorted. TCO is located half way along ducting in between terminals of the thermostat…just couldn’t see it for the terminals! Should have though its a big red button!!

Thanks again for your help this has been cheaper to fix than I had feared!
