    Hi,
My 11 year old Zanussi Jetsystem Excel 1250. Model: FJS 1397W
has suddenly taken to only doing spin or drain, no matter which program is selected. These spin or drain activities happen in short bursts of a few seconds which are then repeated until the machine is switched off.

I’m leaving this house for another one 500 miles away in 2 months time, so I’d like to make a D-I-Y repair, then just leave the machine behind on departure.

Please can anyone advise me on the possible cause and cure for this problem?

    Regards,
    Will

It sounds like, but I can’t be sure of course, there’s an issue with the motor tacho.

It could just have fallen off, in which case putting it back on should sort it.

Or, it could be broken or damaged and you may well have to replace the full motor. If that’s the case then TBH it’s not worth spending that sort of money on given the age, if the motor is still available of course as it’s liable to be the best part of £100 at least.

Apologies for the delay in appreciation for the expertise kwatt.
My wife resisted my turning the machine upside down mightily.
She preferred washing the clothes in the bath and using the little limping rinse and spin remaining to finish off the job.
Today I caught her in a moment of weakness, upended the machine and sure enough, you were absolutely spot on with your diagnosis. 🙂

The threaded plastic shaft on the magnet had unscrewed itself and pushed the body of the tacho out of the cylindrical housing. No sign of a surclip or groove for it at the mouth of the housing but when I screwed the magnet back in place and pushed back the body of the tacho, it all seemed to stay in place firmly and we’re now having a laundry fiesta. Thanks a million kwatt.
